CW Boss On ‘Supernatural’ Going 15 Seasons Strong & Potential Spinoff from Deadline!

Today, the CW gave a thumbs up for Supernatural‘s 15th season, and as the series closes in on its 300th episode on February 7, it may just be the longest-running hourlong series on an outlier network.

Said the CW president Mark Pedowitz at TCA about the network’s continued commitment to the series: “As long as the ratings hold up and the guys (stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) want to do it, it’s really that simple. They have created something about these two brothers that actually transcends.”

Created by Eric Kripke, Supernatural centers on two brothers who follow their father’s footsteps as “hunters,” fighting evil supernatural beings of many kinds including monsters, demons and gods that roam the Earth.

A key reason why Supernatural has remained on the air is that it’s a great launchpad for frosh CW shows.

“The show has been the lead-in or lead-out to all the successful shows on the network,” said Pedowitz about Supernatural‘s Thursday night slot. “It has one of the most balanced audiences.”

The CW tried to crack a Supernatural spinoff, specifically Wayward Sisters, which was to center on the star of the original series, Kim Rhodes. in a story about Sheriff Jody Mills and a group of troubled young women, all orphaned by supernatural tragedy who, under Mills’ training, become a monster-fighting force.

At the May 2018 upfronts, Pedowitz said the spinoff was a no-go, but was always welcome to pitches from the Supernatural EPs about the expansion of the franchise.

At summer TCA, Pedowitz said Supernatural is such a great franchise, he believed “there may not be a franchise beyond that.”

Deadline asked Pedowitz again today whether there was any shot of a Supernatural spinoff given that it’s going 15 seasons strong.

“I’ll say it again, if there was a spinoff to be had, I’d love to have it,” he said. “That said, I’ve come to somewhat of a conclusion that the show is the two brothers.”

Speaking to the future of Supernatural, Pedowitz said, “If I can find a way, that (the show) stays the whole time on, and still holds up and the studio can figure out how to do it, we’re all in.”

Exclaimed Pedowitz about Supernatural‘s success, “I’m just happy I’m alive.”

Supernatural boss promises surprising twist for Sam and Dean heading into season 15 from Digitalspy

"Bad things are coming, as they always are, for the Winchesters."
By Jess Lee 11/02/2019

If seeing John Winchester again wasn't enough for Supernatural fans, there's going to be a new twist in store for brothers Sam and Dean.

Showrunner Andrew Dabb discussed with IGN what to expect from the rest of the 14th season, and he shared that, although "bad things are coming" (as you would expect), our heroes will continue to grow as characters.

It's just as well that we're definitely getting a season 15!

"I will say, true to Supernatural form, season 14 does not end on an 'everybody is super happy and hugging' note, necessarily," Dabb said. "Bad things are coming, as they always are, for the Winchesters.

"But I do think that, moving into 15... I think that people will be surprised and will be happy in terms of where we're going, not only in terms of the plotline, but also in terms of our guys and their ongoing growth as people."

Dabb also teased that another familiar face will be returning later in season 14.

"In terms of going forward, in episode 20, I will say that we get visited by an old favourite," he said.

Last month, Supernatural was confirmed to be renewed by The CW alongside the likes of Supergirl, Arrow, Riverdale, and The Flash.

Season 15 spoilers from TVLine!

In Supernatural Episode 14×08 (“Byzantium”), Castiel made a deal with the Empty to save Jack. Are we going to see how this is affecting Cas emotionally, and are Sam and Dean going to find out about it eventually? — Mel
“The good news about being renewed early [for Season 15] is it allows us to try to space some of that stuff out. So I don’t know that we will be dealing with it this year,” co-showrunner Andrew Dabb reveals. “However, it is something that will need to be dealt with, and chances are Cas will not have a choice about when that happens.” Dabb says that Dean and Sam “may find out about [the deal] this year,” and their reaction will likely be similar to when one of them has made a like-minded sacrifice: “‘What the hell are you doing? But I kind of get.’ For our guys, the deal’s done, it’s in the past. It’s how do you deal with the consequences of it, and that’s going to weigh on everyone’s mind very strongly.”

'Supernatural' to End With Season 15 on The CW
MARCH 22, 2019 1:39pm PT by Lesley Goldberg

Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins announced that the genre drama will wrap alongside 'Arrow' in the 2019-2020 broadcast season.
It's truly the end of an era at The CW.

The network's longest-running scripted original, Supernatural, is ending with its previously announced 15th season. Stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins made the announcement Friday on social media. Season 15 will consist of 20 episodes — on par with its current tally.

“Firstly, we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with the show both in front of and behind the camera. For us it has been an experience of a lifetime. The support we have had from both Warner Bros Television and The CW has been incredible. We'd like to give special thanks to Jensen, Jared and Misha for making this journey so special. It is now most important to us to give these characters that we love the send off they deserve,” exec producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb said in a joint statement.

"Well, it’s official. One more round for the Winchester brothers. Though nothing ever really ends in Supernatural...does it?" Ackles wrote alongside a video of the show's three stars announcing the news Friday.

Supernatural currently ranks as the longest-running sci-fi/genre series in the history of American broadcast television. The drama, created by Eric Kripke and produced by Warner Bros. TV, started on the former WB Network and carried over when the younger-focused broadcaster became a joint venture between WBTV and CBS TV Studios to form The CW. It will have aired 327 episodes when it concludes sometime next season. It is the lone show from The WB Network era to remain alive.

‘Supernatural’ to End After Season 15 on The CW from Variety!
By JOE OTTERSON

“Supernatural” is ending after 15 seasons.

Series stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins made the announcement in a video posted on Instagram on Friday. “We just told the crew that even though we’re very excited to be moving into our 15th season, it will be our last,” Ackles said. “15 years of a show that has certainly changed my life, I know it’s changed these two guys’ lives, and we just wanted you to here from us that though we’re excited about next year, it will be the finale.”

“We’ve cried some tears and we’ll cry some more, but we’re grateful and we’re going to work all that emotion into next season,” added Padalecki. Watch the announcement in full below.

The final season will consist of 20 episodes. “Supernatural” has been a cornerstone of The CW throughout its run and remains one of the most popular shows on the network. It was renewed for its 15th season back in January along with 10 other CW shows, including “Charmed” and “Riverdale.”

At the time of its series finale, the series will have aired over 320 episodes. It began airing when The CW was still The WB Network and is the lone WB series to still be on the air. “Supernatural” was created by Eric Kripke and is executive produced by Robert Singer, Andrew Dabb, Phil Sgriccia, Jeremy Carver, Eugenie Ross-Leming, and Brad Buckner. Warner Bros. Television produces in association with Wonderland Sound and Vision.

This is the latest popular CW series to set its final season. “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” is set to end after its current season, which will end in April, while “Jane the Virgin” is set to end after its fifth season, which debuts on March 27. Most recently, The CW also announced that DC Comics show “Arrow” would end after its upcoming eighth season.

Supernatural to end with season 15: Watch the stars' video message to fans from EW!
SAMANTHA HIGHFILL March 22, 2019 at 04:48 PM EDT

It’s almost the end of the road for Sam and Dean.

The CW has announced that Supernatural’s 15th season will be its last.

Supernatural, which premiered in 2005, tells the story of Sam and Dean Winchester, two brothers who lost their mother when they were young and whose father raised them to go into the family business. That business? Saving people and hunting things. For years, Supernatural fans have watched Sam and Dean battle everything from the white woman that started it all to Death himself. Along the way, the series gained a loyal following that helped it to become the longest-running sci-fi/genre series in the history of American broadcast television.

Executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb released the following statement about the show ending: “Firstly, we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with the show both in front of and behind the camera. For us it has been an experience of a lifetime. The support we have had from both Warner Bros Television and The CW has been incredible. We’d like to give special thanks to Jensen, Jared and Misha for making this journey so special. It is now most important to us to give these characters that we love the send off they deserve.”

Additionally, stars Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins and Jensen Ackles came together to make the announcement in a video that they shared on social media.

“We have some big news that we wanted y’all to hear from us,” Padalecki starts things off with Ackles delivering the kicker: “We just told the crew that though we’re very, very excited about moving into our 15th season, it will be our last…We wanted you to hear from us that though we’re excited about net year, it will be the finale, the big grand finale of an institution.”

Collins chimed in to say that “This family is not going anywhere even though this show ill come to an end.”

And finally, Ackles shared some words from show creator Eric Kripke, saying, “In a show about family, it is amazing and it is the pride of his life that it became family, so thank you guys.”

But Ackles can one-up that feeling with a dream he had. “I can see it right now,” Ackles says. “It’s just one scene. Think: Middle America, Big Sky country. It’s just wheat fields as far as the eye can see, and there’s an intersection, a crossroads, oddly enough. I drive up in the Impala, and I park in the middle of the intersection. There’s nobody for miles. I get out of the car and I look in the distance — and it’s like Lawrence of Arabia when Omar Sharif was running up with the camelthis link opens in a new tab — I just see this thing coming in the distance, and it gets closer and closer and closer and closer. It’s a guy on a motorbike. And we never really see his face. He’s got a helmet on. But he walks up and I give him a nod, and I take a walk around the Impala very slowly and I walk back over to him and I hand the keys to him. And he takes off his helmet — we don’t see who it is — he hands the helmet to me and hands me the keys to the bike. From his back, he gets in the car and I watch the Impala drive off. And then I turn and I look at the bike that’s got one seat. And I put the helmet on, start the bike, [give] one last look to the Impala, it’s now gone, and I take off. Because I don’t need the extra seat anymore. And I even have the soundtrack in my head. There were no words spoken. I had this swelling score. It was like some Robert Zemeckis film.”

Supernatural Stars Explain Final-Season Decision: 'Nobody Wanted to See This Show Fizzle Out' from TVLine!
By Vlada Gelman

“This was a community decision. The network and the studio did not say like, ‘Hey, guys, get outta here! You’re done,'” star Jared Padalecki said at a fan convention for the show in Las Vegas this past weekend. (His response was preceded by an audience member jokingly asking who made a deal with a crossroads demon, seeing as how the series went on for 10 more years after creator Eric Kripke’s original five-year plan.)

“It wasn’t an easy decision,” co-star Jensen Ackles added. “It was months and months, if not years, of discussion between [Jared] and I, between the rest of the cast, between the crew, between our writers, between our producers, between the studio, between the network.”

“Nobody wanted to see this show fizzle out,” Ackles continued. “I think that it was everyone wanting to do the biggest service to the show that we could by going out strong. It just seemed like the writing was kind of on the wall as to when that was happening. I think everybody kind of felt that it was coming soon. So it was just taking that leap of faith of going like, ‘Well, guys, let’s get out the paint and paint that finish line, and hold our heads high, because what we’ve accomplished is unlike any other.’

Ackles went on to compare the decision to as “if we’re driving the Impala, and we’re heading down the road, and it’s, like, left, you’re going to hit a ramp and go off a cliff, and it’s going to be epic, or right, you’re just going to run out of gas about 30 miles down the road in the middle of the desert with nothing around you. I’m like, ‘I’m going left. I want to go out with, like, pyrotechnics.'”

I had an idea about the last episode for the series. So whoever the Winchesters fight in the last episode, God takes pity on the Winchesters and Castiel. So God sends the 3 to the alternate world of The French Mistake from season 6 episode 15 with all their memories intact. He also weaves the timeline so that Misha Collins never died in the alternate timeline.

Jensen Ackles says Supernatural cliffhanger could lead to 'the best season of the show' from EW!
By Samantha Highfill May 15, 2019 at 10:00 AM EDT

EW has an exclusive sneak peek at “The Winchester Mythology: The Choices We Make,” a season 14 digital featurette in which showrunner Andrew Dabb says, “God was not kidding when he said it was the end of this story. And by the end of this story, it means the end of the world. The question of what that looks like, the question of how Sam and Dean deal with that, I think those are the big things that we’re going to explore going into season 15.”

Dean Winchester himself, Jensen Ackles, adds, “The world has just opened up, essentially, and all of those things that we have spent so many years fighting, they’re going to come knocking now.” Ackles is referencing the fact that the season 14 finale ended with all the monsters once killed by Dean and Sam (Jared Padalecki) coming back (along with a lot of zombies). “It’s going to be an all-out free-for-all,” Ackles says, adding, “In my opinion, they’re teeing up what could possibly be the best season of the show.”

From Vanityfair

Pedowitz also addressed the end of Supernatural, a series that had a home at the CW as long as Ackles and Padalecki were game to stick around. When the two finally decided to say goodbye, Pedowitz said, “It was a puddle of tears from everybody.” Still, he got their reasoning: “It was about family, about seeing their kids grow up. They wanted to go out when the show was still as strong as possible. And as much as I probably begged for them not to do this, I understood . . . and basically we all were on the same page.”

Why Supernatural's Jared Padalecki Can Never Say Goodbye to Sam Winchester
by CHRIS HARNICK | Fri., May. 17, 2019 5:00 AM

With the end set, have they started to say goodbye?

"Not yet," Ackles told E! News on the 2019 CW upfront red carpet.

"Are you trying to get us to cry?" Padalecki added.

"[Laughs.] Yeah, what are you, Barbara Walters? What's happening right now? No, again we still have a whole year. I was saying to him, ‘It's not like we put in our two weeks notice.' We've got a 12-month notice here. So, we've got a little time to kind of marinate in it and let it soak in. But I will say that once we turn the corner, which is usually after the holidays, it's going to get pretty dusty," Ackles said.

But that doesn't mean things haven't gotten "dusty yet."

"There was a moment when Jensen conveyed a dream he had about how the show ends, and basically to sum it up, Sam is dead, and Dean is having to go off into the unknown on his own," Collins said. "When he conveyed that dream, he teared up, and then so did Jared, and then so did I. It was like, ‘Oh my god, we actually are crying about an imaginary character.' But they became real to us, and so that's going to be hard."

When season 15 wraps up, it may not be the end of the line for Sam, Dean and Castiel—depending on who you ask.

"Well, can there be a definitive on Supernatural?" Padalecki asked.

"I was talking to him last night, I was like, ‘I don't want to do the whole Game of Thrones thing where everything gets tied up all nice and neat,' I'm like, ‘Let's just mess it all up,'" Ackles said. "I don't think I want a definitive ending. We got to keep that—I think we keep that door cracked open for a feature in a few years…There's always ways to bring people back."

Collins has a different take.

"I would love to see a definitive ending, personally. It feels like the show and the audience deserves that," he said.

Whatever happens to the Winchester brothers, Padalecki said there will be no moment where Sam Winchester is truly gone from his life.

"…It occurred to me I don't I ever could say goodbye to Sam Winchester, you know? He's been a part of my life for 14 years, about to be 15 years, he I s a part of me. I learned a lot from Sam, I learned a lot from Dean, hopefully Sam learned something from Jared as well. I'll carry that character with me. I mean, 15 years of my life is a long time to be really indebted in somebody else's journey, so I'll carry him with me in some way, shape or form."

There were like a couple of questions asked about S15 and Jensen told us about it. He was so passionate about all of it, about filming techniques and directing. Told us that he’s written up something for the episode he’s going to direct because he couldn’t sleep and couldn’t shake the thought out off his head. He sent it in and they said that what he’s written up was great and that they could talk about it. Also telling him that if his acting career should fail, he could still have a career in writing. He laughed while telling it. Jensen also told us that they’re going to Australia after Rome and on the way back, they’ll stop in LA to talk with the writers. He also listed off a couple of writers and directors who they could convince to come back for S15 and I’m really sorry but I can’t remember the names. I think that David who directed the Pilot and Wendigo will come back and direct at least one episode. But I could also be wrong. Excuse me and don’t take my word for it.

Jared Padalecki Says Sam and Dean's Death Might Be the Only Way to End Supernatural from TV Guide
By Keisha Hatchett | @keishamaze | May 23, 2019

"I want Season 15 to be a great season, obviously. It's our last season. But I want it to feel like it's gonna go on," Padalecki told TV Guide during The CW's upfronts red carpet. "I don't want Sam to feel like it's the ending. I want Sam to feel like he's still making a difference, that he's still helping other people. And so, I don't want it to feel like doom and gloom, too much...I want Sam to still fight, to keep fighting and keep supporting his brother and his friends and his family."

We don't yet know how the show will conclude, but Collins revealed the ending he thinks makes the most sense, which is for Sam, Dean and Cas to die. "I hate to say this but I kind of hope that the main characters on the show die at the end. I feel like we need that finality," said Misha.

"If they die--I don't know, I don't think it's written yet--but if they do die, I want them to die going out doing something they love that will make the world a better place," explained Padalecki. "Part of me thinks that's the only way to end Supernatural. Because if the boys were alive, they'd be hunting, and if they're hunting, I want to see them hunting. Maybe that's the way it goes, I don't know."

The Season 14 finale set the tone for an epic final season, wrapping on a shocking cliffhanger that saw Chuck (Rob Benedict) murder Jack, who was sent to the Big Empty, before unleashing all hell on Earth. As all hell broke loose (literally), Sam, Dean, and Cas were last seen surrounded by an army of the undead ready to presumably feast on their flesh.

"It certainly lays a landscape now for anything to happen. The fact that he's [Chuck] opened the gates to heaven and hell and said, 'You guys figure it out' really puts us in a position to go anywhere and to have anybody come back," Ackles said of the finale. "I'm hoping we take full advantage of that, and I have a feeling that we might."

Some of those familiar faces they'd like to see back include Bobby Singer (Jim Beaver), the Winchesters' deceased father John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who appeared in the milestone 300th episode, the dearly-departed archangel Gabriel (Richard Speight Jr.), and Sam and Dean's long-lost half-brother Adam (Jake Abel), who found himself locked in Lucifer's (Mark Pellegrino) cage in Season 5.

"I'd love to figure out what happened to Adam," said Padalecki. Added Ackles, "Maybe we finally deal with the fact that our half-brother is locked in a cage."

This Is How Jensen Ackles Wants Supernatural to End from E News
by CHRIS HARNICK | Tue., May. 21, 2019

https://akns-images.eonline.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/2019416/rs_1024x683-190516141231-1024-32-supernatural-ch-051619.jpg

The Supernatural stars are preparing for their last season, season 15, and it was their call to say goodbye to the long-running CW series that has legions of dedicated fans. The CW president Mark Pedowitz has maintained the show would stay on the air as long as they wanted to keep making it. Ackles told E! News once Pedowitz made that decree, he and Padalecki started talking.

"The way it went between he and I was we've been talking about it for years," Ackles told E! News in a joint interview with Padalecki. "When Mark kind of planted that seed then he and I were like, ‘Oh, wow. This is something we're going to have to shoulder and figure out ourselves.'"

"It's a big responsibility," Padalecki added.

"The conversation's been going on about when, when is the time? I think he and I always wanted to never see the show fizzle, never run out of gas. We wanted to go out strong, we wanted to go out while we were still able to give the quality of product that we've been giving for the last 15 years," Ackles said. "We just—we took a lot of people into account. We talked to a lot of people. It was certainly a collective decision that was very difficult to make."

Then, Ackles, Padalecki and Collins released a video in March 2019 announcing the end of the series. Season 14 of Supernatural ended with the guys facing off with God Himself, and as a result they're now going to face every monster and demon they previously vanquished. It's the end of all things and they want it to be epic, Collins said.

"We have 20 episodes left. I guess it could all be really emotionally-gripping drama for 20 episodes, it could be a lot of mourning and goodbyes, but I hope we have a peppering of a couple more strange, surreal, "Scoobynatural," "The French Mistake" style episodes where we just do something completely out of the box. Maybe we could do a proper musical episode or something like that before we go," Collins mused.

Whatever happens, it will be the Winchesters together if Ackles gets his wish.

"I think whatever it is, it's got to be the brothers together. That's been the core of this show since the beginning. I think it's really what the fans want to see. I think regardless of who comes knockin', I think whatever is done it's about these two brothers and their journey. I think that's really where the heart of the show should reside," he said.

Supernatural Final Season Video: Will John Return Again? Plus, Who Will Get to Take Home Baby? from TVLine!

But with the show entering its final season this fall, is the patriarch due for another homecoming?

During the milestone installment, Dean and Sam both had some long overdue conversations with their dad. With that catharsis, “I think the boys got the closure they needed,” star Jared Padalecki tells TVLine in the video above. “As a fan of the show, I’d always love [Jeffrey Dean Morgan] to come back. But if he doesn’t come back, I think it was… It’s almost like when Bobby died. It made me sad as a fan of the show and as somebody who loves Jim Beaver, but it was great television. And it was what the story needed.”

“Whatever’s best for the show,” Padalecki continues, adding that even if John doesn’t reappear, the 300th episode’s “little sendoff was a proper nod to Jeff.”

Elsewhere in the video, Padalecki and co-star Misha Collins discuss what they’re going to take home from the set and who’s got dibs on Dean’s beloved Baby. “I think Jensen [Ackles] will probably just drive it off the lot on the last day and be gone,” says Padalecki, who’s an aficionado of late ’60s muscle cars, but would “love for Jensen to have [the Impala].”

Richard Speight, Jr. to Direct Three Episodes in ‘Supernatural’ Season 15 from nerdsandbeyond
BY NICKI JUN 19, 2019

In this recent interview, Speight revealed that he will be directing three episodes that will be scattered throughout season 15; and, before you think to ask: no, he does not know what is going to happen. As a fellow fan of the show, he assures us that we really don’t want the spoilers anyway.

“I feel blessed beyond measure to have been a part of a show as cool as Supernatural.” Speight says regarding the departure of Supernatural from the airwaves, “That is the gift of that show. That we all have an emotional reaction to its parting says a lot about how connected we were to it while it was here.”

So... guess who's the newest writer on one of my all-time favorite shows? Yeah, I know... it's crazy. I'm not sure it's real yet. But, here we are...
Anyway, I'm grateful. I'm excited (and a little nervous). I hope I can contribute in a meaningful way. #supernatural #spn

Any early scoop on Supernatural‘s final season?–Adder
If, like us, you’re hoping that series creator Eric Kripke might somehow be involved in the show’s swan song, we’ve got mixed news. “I haven’t had any conversations yet,” Kripke told us while promoting his upcoming Amazon series, The Boys. “I will certainly talk to [showrunners] Bob Singer and Andrew Dabb when they’re closer [to the end].” One big obstacle standing in the way of Kripke’s homecoming: His overall deal with Sony Pictures Television, which presents a Romeo and Juliet-esque situation with the WBTV-produced Supernatural. “You’re at two warring houses, so I’m not sure if they’ll let me go over there,” he says. “But I would love to talk to them about the finale. … Just from hearing from the fans, I at least want to have a couple of conversations with those guys and make sure that we send Sam and Dean off into the sunset in a way that makes everybody happy.” Bonus scoop: Jensen Ackles told us that he will be directing the first episode being filmed this season, which will air as Episode 4.

Comic Con TV Guide 2019 - Spoilery Interview with Robert Singer on Season 15!

This is a transcription of the "Burning Questions" segment with executive producer Robert Singer. All credit for this interview goes to the amazing Ileane Rudolph of TV guide, who has done a very faithful job of promoting "Supernatural" for TV guide for just about its entire run. I'm in awe that here we are season fifteen and she is still so engaged with what is happening with the show. I thank her once again for providing us fans some questions to chew on as we get these first spoilers of the season.

Here is the interview as it appears in TV guide:

For the cliffhanger leading into Supernatural's 15th and - gasp- final season, the producers wanted the show's heroes, hunters Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles), along with angel ally Castiel (Misha Collins), left "in a horrific predicament," says executive producer Robert Singer. Mission accomplished. In the Season 14 finale, Dean fails to execute the gang's half-angel ward Jack (Alexander Calvert), who accidentally killed the brothers' mom, Mary (Samantha Smith), so the manipulative God, aka Chuck (Rob Benedict), quickly does the deed. When an angry Sam shoots Chuck, the vengeful deity awakens the dead and unleashes hordes of ghosts and zombies that swarm the good guys, accompanied by the proclamation "Welcome to the end!" Singer previews the apocalypse to come.

As the world's overseer, Chuck has always found the Winchesters more entertaining than troublesome. Will he relent and save the brothers and Cas from his wrath? According to Singer, it looks like they'll have to save themselves. "Chuck will not necessarily be onscreen a lot, but [he will] return to play an integral role next year, creating interesting twists and turns," he notes.

Some of those creatures attacking the hunters are familiar from former episodes, including the pilot's ghostly Woman in White and Season 1's Bloody Mary. Should we anticipate more returnees now that it's the beginning of the end? Absolutely. Expect a "best of" parade of characters from the horror series' long history. "We want to pay off every character we can that viewers have either come to love or hate," the exec says. "This season will be less about big set pieces and more about the problems and personalities of both the living people and the resurrected ghosts that Cas and the Winchester brothers run into."

Will we get one final offbeat meta episode before the series wraps? Good news Singer says. "We want to do another episode in the vein of [Season 5's] "Changing Channels" and [Season 6's] "The French Mistake" -- one of our big crazy swings." Hmmm...could that mean we're up for another alternate-universe adventure? We'll have to wait and see.

We last saw Jack wake up int he darkness of the Empty, a void that serves as an afterlife for celestial-adjacent beings, where former reaper Billie (Lisa Berry), reincarnated as Death, says she has a proposition for him. Does Death need Jack's help to fight God? Perhaps. Chuck clearly doesn't like his newest Death. "He may see her as a rival," Singer teases. "What Billie offers Jack will unfold over the course of the year."

What about the version of a series finale Ackles and Padalecki have often discussed - that they want to go out fighting a la Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? Should we forget about a happy ending? Not necessarily. "Frankly, we don't want it to be a total downer," Singer says. "That would disappoint us, and the fans as well." But will the brothers leave the world they've worked so hard to save time and time again in a better place? "I can't promise that the world is all butterflies and sweetness at the end," Singer says. However, he does vow to give the viewers "an emotional season and a real ending," he says. "We won't do an enigmatic ending as in The Sopranos or St. Elsewhere."
