Laissez les bons temps rouler!" is a Cajun expression meaning "Let the good times roll!" It strongly conveys the "joie de vivre" ("joy of living" attitude that pervades south Louisiana. It is mostly associated with New Orleans. (THE BEST CITY IN THE WORLD!)

Let the Good Times Roll is a 1973 rockumentary / concert film directed by Robert Abel and Sidney Levin. It features numerous stars from the American pop and rock music scene of the 1950s.

It may have taken 13 seasons but Jensen Ackles is finally going to play someone other than Dean Winchester on Supernatural. Unlike Jared Padalecki, who has stepped into several different roles throughout the course of the show, this is the first time we're going see Ackles slip into someone else's skin — which is a big deal.

And while we don't know much about who he might be playing or any of the circumstances surrounding the major switch, it looks like this new character is going to be a game changer for the show, and someone fans probably aren't expecting.

"It's a bold choice for us but I think it's really going to pay off," executive producer Andrew Dabb tells TV Guide. Added executive producer Robert Singer, "We're talking about a season-ender."

Wait, what? If they're waiting until the end of the season to pull off this major character switch, it's a pretty good sign that we're in for something special. Keep your eyes peeled, this one's going to be huge.

Jim and Misha wrapped Tuesday the 17th.
Jensen filmed scenes walking down the street alone in a un-Dean-like costume (perhaps period clothes) and with non-Dean mannerism.

At this point, Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki know to expect the unexpected. And as season 13 comes to a close, the unexpected, at least for Ackles, means the opportunity to play someone other than Dean Winchester.

Ackles previously revealed to EW that the end of the season would allow him to take a page out of Padalecki’s handbook and play a new character. “Over the years I’ve only ever had to just play Dean, whereas Jared has had to be Lucifer and Gadreel and all these different actual characters other than Sam,” Ackles said. “That is all going to change soon. Something big’s coming.”

Ackles then gave fans a sneak peek at the new character on his Instagram page. And yet, we’re still not sure exactly who this new character is. According to Supernatural co-showrunner Andrew Dabb, the character will be both surprising and … not so much?

“The fun about Apocalypse World and these stories we’re telling is that sometimes the actors embrace other performances that maybe aren’t what they’re used to doing,” Dabb tells EW. “Obviously after 13 years, Jensen’s very used to playing Dean and is amazing at it. In terms of who the [new] character is, I will say that it’s a character that will be both unexpected and kind of a long time coming.”

When it comes to brotherly arguments, there’s one pairing who will forever have the Winchesters beat: Michael and Lucifer. Supernatural has seen the archangel siblings at odds once before, when the season 5 finale gave us our first experience with the apocalypse. That time, the fight ended before it even began when Sam took control of Lucifer and willingly jumped into the cage. But now, with Michael and Lucifer both in the real world, what will Apocalypse 2.0 look like?

“Michael and Lucifer in season 5 had a very specific, almost ritualistic dance they were going to do. They were going to hop into Sam and hop into Dean and have this fight,” co-showrunner Andrew Dabb tells EW. “This time, there are no rules. Michael has a different agenda. Michael’s stronger than anyone else on the show. He’s not as wedded to this idea that Dean Winchester is important at all. He doesn’t need Dean. He doesn’t have that instruction card that he’s following. He’s not trying to get God’s attention; he doesn’t care about God. He’s an extremely narcissistic, selfish person who’s really interested in doing things the way he wants to do them, and we’ve seen the results of that in Apocalypse World. We’ve seen what that leads to, so the showdown is less about this brotherly dynamic and more about this extremely driven individual in Michael who will do anything to win.”

What exactly that means remains to be seen, though Supernatural fans know to expect big things when it comes to season finales. After all, this time last year the show delivered two major deaths and the introduction of alternate worlds. As for how season 13’s ender will compare to season 12, Dabb says, “The body count is lower, but the stakes are higher.”

There is one story line we know will live into next year — the situation in heaven. (Reminder: It’s running low on angels.) As Dabb puts it, that will “continue hanging over us into next season.”

Supernatural finales are known for delivering big action and even bigger twists, and season 13 will be no different as things come to a head with Michael and Lucifer. And according to star Jensen Ackles, this year’s finale will introduce “elements that we have never dabbled with in all 13 years of the show.” One of those things being stunt work. “Let’s say we elevated it this finale,” Ackles says of the stunts.

Misha Collins weighs in on the finale, saying, “The last three episodes of the season were pretty epic by Supernatural standards. When the scripts came in, the producers were saying they were un-shootable. It was just really, really big and we tied up those storylines and then we’ve set ourselves up for some really big challenges going into the next season.”

Like most season finales, not everyone will make it out alive. “There are characters who don’t make it,” Ackles says. And considering that Sam Winchester had a recent dance with death, Dean will be on edge to make sure his brother is one of the survivors of this apocalypse. “At this point, Dean is willing to do whatever it takes,” Ackles continues. “That’s the one recurring themes with these brothers is that they will go to the ends [of the earth], not just to fight the good fight but certainly for each other, and we see that toward the end of the episode.”

Also toward the end of the finale? The introduction of Ackles’ new character that we’ve heard so much about. “There’s a little something at the end that sets up what we’re going to do in season 14, and it has to do with me playing another character,” Ackles says. “That’s one of the cliffhangers, but there’s a lot going on.”

As for that new character, Ackles describes him with one word: “Stylish.”
