Faellie had mentioned this to me not to long ago, but yesterday I got a press release sharing the details.  In honor of Supernatural season five launching on Living in the UK soon, there is a new alternate reality game.  Below are all the details.  It sound like fun!  You UK fans will have to let the rest of us know how the game goes

LIVING goes Supernatural with alternate reality game – Fight the Apocalypse in the UK
In 2009, Emmy Award nominated US drama Supernatural found a new home in the UK – LIVING. To raise awareness for the UK premiere of series five starting early Feb, LIVING is launching one of the UK’s most complex alternate reality games (ARG) ever, which will offer one viewer the ultimate Supernatural prize – a chance to appear in the show.
Supernatural season four ended in suspense as Lucifer was freed from hell and on LIVING season five follows Sam and Dean Winchester as they face their toughest battle yet; the apocalypse.  To promote the new series, LIVING is creating the Fight the Apocalypse ARG, which calls on Supernatural fans to mobilise their armies and join the fight against Lucifer.
The ARG is based around collecting hidden symbols - ‘Enochian Sigils’ - which players must locate, photograph and send via MMS to a shortcode,. One of the first truly cross-platform campaigns of its type, the ARG utilises online, mobile, print and real world elements.
Enochian Sigils have been hidden online and at real world locations throughout the UK and clues to the Sigil locations will be delivered by Castiel (Misha Collins) in specially filmed sequences on the Fight the Apocalypse website (http://www.Luciferiscoming.com). Once located, Sigils are photographed on any mobile device and using Image recognition technology – which recognises any image taken on a mobile phone camera – are uploaded to the player’s profile.
In the ARG players have two ways of making it to the top: locating and photographing Enochian Sigils, and building an online army of support. Players can invite friends to join their army via email and through Facebook. On the luciferiscoming.com website, Supernatural fans can create their own profile and contact friends to join their army, manage their game playing and collection of Enochian Sigils, as well as view other contestants’ profiles and join forces with other players. For fans who want to play on the move, all core game functions will be available on the mobile site.
Online media partners are collaborating in the game, with some sites creating their own bespoke mini challenges for gamers to find sigils. Twitter is the social hub for Fight the Apocalypse and will countdown to the start of the game, as well as announcing new clues, and creating a community around the game and the new series of Supernatural. Followers of the Fight the Apocalypse Twitter feed will be given tips and additional mini challenges to win extra prizes. Fans can follow the Fight the Apocalypse Twitter at www.twitter.com/fightapocalypse.
The first clue to start the hunt will be released on the 20th January. Fans can pre-register for the game now at www.luciferiscoming.com.

Here is the CW promo going out congratulating just Supernatural this time for their People's Choice Award.  The lovefest continues!

Thanks Lindsay for the link!
ETA 1/12 - Another bonus.
CW promo posters at the 2010 Winter TCAs on Twitpic
As I'm sure just about everyone has seen from Michael Ausiello at EW.com, he had a nice conversation with Dawn Ostroff (president of The CW) yesterday at the CW TCA press event.  The TCA (Television Critics Association) Winter Tour is a wonderful annual event for the members of that exclusive club to generate some spring buzz for TV shows as they come back from winter break.

Anyway, as Michael has been able to scoop, season six of Supernatural is looking more and more official.  The article is certainly exciting news for a Supernatural fan, but hardly surprising.  I've been reporting for some time that season six was almost a certainty.  However, the issue has never been if season six was happening.  The issue has been if Kripke was going to be part of season six.  Judging by Ms. Ostroff's comments yesterday, it sounds like he's coming on board.  Here are my favorite quotes from Ms. Ostroff about our beloved show:

“I had lunch with Eric the other day and he’s really excited about the show right now. I think he feels this season has been really satisfying for him. He’s certainly not running out of ideas by any stretch of the imagination.”

“The ratings are up,” she says. “We have more young women coming to the show than ever before. There aren’t a lot of shows that you can say are doing better in their fifth year.”

One note about the ratings, please keep in mind she's talking about women 18-34.  Overall ratings are down, but then again, overall ratings for everything except The Big Bang Theory are down.  It's down less than all the other CW shows.  So everyone, enjoy the love, and it's time to wildly speculate about season six.

In going through my News Feeds for the evening look what just came up! An actual promo from The CW congratulating their "award winning" Thursday night lineup. I still can't pick my jaw up from the floor.

Congratulations to both Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries! Both shows are really deserving.

Here I've been announcing all the accolades Supernatural has gotten on Year End lists, and the show goes and wins an actual award in this TV and movie awards season.  After losing last year, Supernatural has won a People's Choice Award for Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show!  Wow!  This was considered by many to be one of those "snowball's chance" things, especially up against Heroes and Lost.  Here's the proof:

The full list of nominees and winners can be found here:

Congratulations to everyone involved with Supernatural, including cast, crew, and fans!  This couldn't have happened without all those that voted.  This is a long deserved moment of recognition and it feels good.
I heard rumors about this a couple of days ago, but scoffed at the source.  Just an hour ago, Just Jared, a very reliable site, broke the news.  Of course they're crediting Kristin Dos Santos, who's also reliable.  (The announcement on EOnline though was posted by Jennifer Godwin, who has great inside sources within the Supernatural scene.  I really trust her word.)

Jared Padalecki and Genevieve Cortese are officially engaged !  Not only are they officially engaged, but a wedding is being planned in Idaho NEXT MONTH.  Likely when Jared is on break from shooting because of the Vancouver Olympics.  As with Jensen and Danneel's blessed announcement, everyone here at The Winchester Family Business send Jared and Genevieve a big congratulations and best wishes for a long happy life together.

Here's the announcement for Jensen and Danneel in case you want to compare cute photos:

Update 1/8 - A few more to share!

The end of the year, aka, the slow news cycle. This is when all the media types take their more than extra time to look back at the year that was and come up with their “2009 lists.” TV analysts are particularly prone to this activity, because television in December is as exciting as skiing in July. Sure the lists are subjective and wide open for debate, but they can be fun. Especially if your favorite show made the list. It kind of makes you looks like a genius.

For Supernatural, thanks to the whole angels and apocalypse thing, it was especially buzzed about this end of the year season. Sure, most of the top, very established TV critics went for the easy favorites and didn’t go out of their way to recognize genre shows as usual (or the repulsive CW for that matter), but there was still love. I had to dig through countless messages and posts sent to me, but here are the sites I could find that gave Supernatural that mention it so deserves.

Anyone who doesn't think that pets can be fun during the holidays has never bought reindeer antlers for the soul purpose of having fun with Fido and Fluffy. Before I share some off the wall holiday snapshots of animals not enjoying their stupid owner's sense of humor, first, I want to share an announcement from our friends, Heather and Lindsay, at Support Supernatural.  Their fundraising efforts for A Dog's Life has gone better than they could have possibly dreamed and they have a message about upcoming efforts for the new year.

Hello all,

As we conclude 2009, we wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude.

We honestly do not know where to begin. 2009 was a truly a wonderful year. This fandom blows us away time and time again. You creatively promote our favorite show relentlessly. You passionately promote Jared's charity consistently... And you donate like crazy! Between our 2009 campaign fundraiser and our additional holiday fundraiser, we raised a total of $17,431! Take that in for a second. Can you believe it? Think about how many animals were saved because of YOU! You all are so amazing. Dare we say it, but you are the BEST FANS IN THE WORLD!

As we enter 2010, we will of course continue to do what we have done since season two. We'll continue to promote the heck out of the most awesome show on television today and of course we will continue to raise funds for A Dog's Life Rescue. Full details will follow, but expect monthly incentives, new interviews...And a whole new site to donate - where your donation dollars will be stretched further than any site we've used before! To say we're excited is an understatement.

Please know that we would never ask anyone individually to donate, but what help we would love to have in 2010 is for you to keep doing what you do best - tell the world about Supernatural and about the good deeds we fans do. We are such huge animal advocates and being able to tie this passion into our favorite TV show has been so rewarding. We hope you are enjoying the ride as well.

Here's to a magical 2010 and a fabulous start to a new decade!

So, without those that adopt unwanted pets from places like A Dog's Life, you'd be missing out on joyful moments like this:

Yes, this is elle2's puppy Jobe.  Growing fast, but still utterly adorable!  Especially in the snow.

Winona I rescued from a co-worker's garage the day she was supposed to be taken to the Humane Society as an unwanted kitten.  That was almost 17 years ago.  Yep, she's still going strong at that age.  She still hates posing yearly with reindeer ears:

Elvis we got at a pet store, but he spent almost two months there and had a respiratory infection from being penned up too long by the time we took him home.  He is the sweetest little puppy and loves people so much!  The ideal family dog.  He takes the reindeer ears as more of a necessary evil.

Cinder is a 13 year old cantankerous yet loyal old dog who has never loved the reindeer ears.  This is her "I'm getting too old for this crap" look.

Gary is the smartest of all our pets.  Why?  For one, he and his brother survived as kittens on their own in a neighbor's garage after their mother put them there.  The owner was going to let them loose in the wild before my mother rescued them.  She kept Gary's brother, we took Gary.  He's also brilliant because when he saw the reindeer ears coming he quickly jumped into our Christmas tree.

Without pets, see what fun you're missing out on?  Support A Dog's Life, or a local animal charity.  These days, they need you more than ever.    It also keeps the reindeer ear manufacturers in business.

Some very, very exciting news!  This just came out an hour ago.  Supernatural has FINALLY been picked up for US second run syndication.  The really exciting news is it will be running on TNT, which is owned by Time Warner, corporate parent of Warner Brothers which owns Supernatural.  So not only are they keeping the show in the family, but this is the best possible cable network for Supernatural to land on.  TNT is a strong network (stronger than The CW in my opinion) and its target audience is far more suited for the show.  Attached is the press release from The Futon Critic.

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- TNT has quietly acquired the off-network rights to The CW's veteran drama "Supernatural."
