This has been an amazing summer, and I have you all that thank for that. The husband and I just went through the stats for the summer, and I must say I got quite teary. More of you followed us in the summer than during the season by a healthy margin. The number of unique visitors slowly climbed, but number of page hits exploded. It seems that when people visited this site, theyรขโฌโขre explored all thatรขโฌโขs here and not just one linked article. It makes those daily posts worth it. Thank you all very much for your support and sharing what we had to offer.
Hellatus flew by and even though I worked myself into a frenzy, Iรขโฌโขm very impressed with the results. We picked apart season four, heck we even did a great job of scrutinizing the other three seasons. Comic Con turned out to be an incredible opportunity, and one that I walked away from cherishing forever. Having the chance to write 17 well received articles about it though, that was even better. Great experiences should be shared, especially among fans in kind.
Not including this one, weรขโฌโขve published 120 articles since the season finale on May 14th. 120. You want to know how many days were in Hellatus? 117. Yes, we actually posted more than once a day on average by a smidge. Iรขโฌโขm tired! (in a good way). A very special thanks to elle2, who earned her angel wings so to speak when becoming a writer for this site. She deserves much credit for the success for her great contributions during Hellatus. Also a big special thanks to our guest contributors Faellie, Tigershire, Mae, Bethany, and elle.
I’m ready to move foward now. Premiere week drives me crazy. Even though my heart jumps over looking at the countdown clock falling at less than two days, especially when I put it up it was closer to 100 days, thatรขโฌโขs all the angst of anticipation I want. I’m tuning out all the overzealous fans spamming Twitter about the upcoming premiere. The overpromotion is very bad on premiere week, and that’s when I usually pull out the filters.
The next two days (or less than 2 days!) Iรขโฌโขm going to settle down, focus, and crank out the two preview articles for blogcritics for The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural based on my interviews at Comic Con. Then Iรขโฌโขm going with nervous anticipation to the TV for two hours of entertainment at 8:00 on Thursday (Iรขโฌโขm giving The Vampire Diaries a try). No Twitter, no forums, no fan promotional activities until the episode has aired. I just want to watch my show. I implore you all do the same. Despite what other fans are doing, it’s VERY important to remember the best promotion for Supernatural is to watch the show live. Thatรขโฌโขs all that really matters.
Of course come right here after you see the episode and share your thoughts. There will be an episode thread going. Happy end of Hellatus and season premiere everyone! Itรขโฌโขs finally here!!!
Great article alice. I have been visiting your site for over a month now and in that space I have read alot of your [and elle2] articles about the show, I am a young male fan of the show [23] have been since it first aired back in 2005 and I gotta say this show has grabbed emotionally in a way no show has. [except maybe journeyman but thats one execption] not even buffy and angel has grabed me in this way. [and I love both those shows dearly] I have thought about this and maybe abit of it comes from the relationship between the brothers which is very real.
because I have a cousin that lives with me and has for a big part of my life and is very dear to me, we are very much like brothers, we joke and prank on eachother and help eachother when needed and so the winchester brothers relationship hooks to a part of myself that is very close to my heart.
I atribute that to the writing by eric kripke and co which is so detailed it boggles my mind to think about it and you have brang this to the forefront brilliantly in your articles about how many layers there is to the brothers, their characterisation and the way they interact with eachother, it is fluid and continues perfectly from episode to episode.
there is no out of character momment ever in any episode. its all precise with perfect precision, and balance. I have never seen a show that deals with family or just raw human emotion the way supernatural does without going into complete soap opera teritory and I dont think i,m the only one when i say that even clunkers like bugs is better then most shows on televison. I have never yet seen a ep of supernatural that i can say i downright hate or dislike and I can be verry critical when there is something I dont feel right about. [and as you have pointed out your ,road so far, season segments that even the clunkers have their share of good brother momments]
anyway I could go on all night about this show [I bet we all could!] but ill close with keep up the goodwork and the articles. I love reading and ill comment whenever I can. great website and from one fan to another thank you for showing me new and other insights about my favourite show its been a real pleasure to read.
And thank you Alice (and your hubby too!) for creating a space where we WANT to come and hang out. You (and elle2) have provided these awesome articles in such quantity that there was something to check out every day, practically. Even if there wasn’t new posts, there were usually new comments and the conversations just kept growing.
You also fostered a “safe” environment, if you will, for people like myself who hadn’t posted a lot, and certainly had never written anything I’d consider an article, to put forth our ideas and suggestions and writing.
Kudoz to you and I’ll definitely be here after the season premier.
Whee! Here we go!
Won’t be seeing it over here until Friday or Saturday but who cares, the wait is nearly over at long last. ๐
A large thank-you to everyone who has kept the home fires burning over the summer, a nicer bunch of obsessives one couldn’t hope to meet!
Alice, elle2, and everyone elso who has a hand in this site. Thank you so very much for creating an exciting, fun, dramaless place to obsess about this show.
Regarding Vampire Diaries. I am also giving it a shot. I enjoyed the books when I was a teenager, but as an adul they really didn’t hold up all that well. We will see.
Just wanted to say thanks for making this hellatus bearable. The articles were very insightful and really captured the many, many layers to this show and its characters. Loved the count down clock and my stomach gets all a flitter looking at it now with less than 2 days to go. Bring it on!
Thanks so much Alice for having such a wonderful site. After I was so complete taken over by Supernatural, I looked for any and all site’s talking about it. Yourรขโฌโขs was the only one I found worth coming back too.
I can empathize with your view, feeling and interpretation of the show, however you can express it in such wonderful words. While I can’t visit your site often, I did read each and every one of the 120 articles published here. They were all WONDERFUL!
Kudos to you any your guest writers. I’ll definitely be here tomorrow after the show.
Where else would I be?
Thanks to all the writers here ๐ I apologize about slacking in commenting, but I do read and appreciate all the wonderful articles you guys have posted here.
If I wait for season 5 to air in my country, odds are I’ll be a grandma first haha. I have to wait a couple of days for someone to upload it online then I’ll be able to watch it. So, to avoid spoilers I’m steering clear of all fansites for the next few days ๐ but then we’re getting SEASON 5 BABY!!! WOOOTTT! ๐ Happy watching everyone..
Alice and Elle2,
Thank you for making Hellatus not only bearable, but speedy and enjoyable. Your insights and analysis are so much fun to read and ponder – and then re-watch the episodes with your words echoing in my head. This site is so wonderful!
I am very much looking forward to episodes reviews and recaps for Season Five.
Only 33.5 hours to go!!!
Ditto what everyone else said, too bad I didn’t find this place earlier this summer. Even though they didn’t say it, my wife and kids were starting to wonder if I was going to burn out my DVDs of the show. ๐
Thank you Alice (and other contributing writers like Elle2 and Faellie) for this treat (also known as hellatus). It felt a very long time at first but thanks to ya’ll it went by so fast ๐
All the effort you guys put out was awesome and even though I didn’t comment on every one I can guarantee I’ve read everything here and it has been very entertaining, so a big THANK YOU ALL!!! ๐
So keep up the good work!
Rock on and hugs and other schmoop your way ๐
Thank you Alice, Elle2 and all the others for making this hellatus the “best” one ever!
23 hours to go for you in the US and 1 day and 8 hours (give or take) for me here in Portugal (thanks to the internet or else would be a lot longer like 2 or 3 moths)
Wow…as I write this the clock is ticking down 1 day, 4 hours and 23 minutes with seconds ticking away furiously.
Who wrote 120 articles in 117 days???? Seriously??? That’s awesome. This has been so much fun to visit here daily to read, comment and just plain enjoy the ‘company of my Supernatural family.’
I too will be giving The Vampire Diaries a try — and that just stuns me. BUT, having sat through the CW’s promo show or whatever they called it, I was somewhat intrigued by the premise behind TVD, so I’ll be hanging out at least tomorrow night and watching it.
I think (major think) I”ve got my DVD recording issues settled (cross fingers, toes, and whatever else you can that this holds true) and I’m well and truly ready to begin writing reviews or thoughts or observations about the episode…not sure I consider my articles to be reviews but they certainly contain my thoughts. I guess I know what I’ll be working on this coming weekend.
Thank you to everyone here for making this so much fun, for those of you that comment, for those of you that don’t but click and read and explore, for those that vote in polls, for those that just joined and for those that have been since the beginning and anyone else I missed … it’s just a lot of fun to come here and ‘be’
11 hours on the clock.
Unfortunately Season 5 isn’t airing in the UK until January, so like Narcissus and Clarice I’ll need to download. Even more unfortunately, for work/personal reasons I’ll be out of reach of downloads for the next week, and as I’ll only have one chance to watch for the first time unspoiled, I’m going to try to stay away from the ‘net as well.
This site has made hellatus almost a pleasure, and I’ve been delighted to be able to contribute. Thanks Alice, and see you all later. Enjoy!
I love seeing the “It’s finally here!” on the countdown clock. Gets me all weepy.:
