This episode, written by Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder, begins on Valentine’s Day in an Ohio home. A couple is getting ready for a night out. The doorbell rings and the babysitter comes in.
The babysitter and the dad have been getting it on. The babysitter wants Dan to tell his wife about them and threatens to tell her if he doesn’t. Alone in the house, the babysitter is being watched. Something or someone enters through the French doors. She recongnizes the man and he massages her shoulders before punching through her chest and ripping her heart out.
Back at the bunker, Sam is researching the case when Dean comes in with a hangover. He wanders around the room and Sam notices that Dean has a hickey. Dean says it’s Valentine’s Day and he’s a hopeless romantic, helping all the single ladies as his civic duty. The boys banter back and forth and Sam stops it by showing Dean the case of the heartless babysitter. Dean wonders if they have an ironic werewolf.
Sam and Dean question the wife and husband. The wife says the only thing missing was the nanny cam from the kitchen. The boys survey the crime scene before deciding to split up. Sam is at the morgue, checking on the autopsy report. The husband is at work when Dean comes into question him further. Dean pressures him into confessing the affair with the babysitter. Dan stole the camera to erase the kiss on it. He shows Dean the video, which shows him killing the babysitter. Dan swears it’s not him because he was at dinner the entire time. Dean takes the video and goes back to the hotel. He shows Sam the video and they guess that it’s a shapeshifter.
Back at Dan’s office, his assistant leaves him and gets into the elevator. She bumps into a woman who goes to Dan’s office. “Staci” the babysitter or the shifter shows up. Shifter rips out Dan’s heart. Seems poetic.
Dean questions the assistant who tells him about bumping into the young girl. Sam and Dean show her a picture of Staci and she confirms it was her. Back at Dan’s house, they question Melissa about Dan’s affair with Staci. Melissa says she did know about the affair but she still loved him. Dean gives her a silver pen, testing to see if she is a monster. She takes it and writes down her number for them. Dean and Sam leave and Melissa runs to her bedroom and grabs a box filled with what seems like spellwork. She grabs a phone and calls someone, begging them to call her back as she throws the spellwork into the garbage disposal. Later that night, Melissa is alone in her house, drinking wine. There’s a knock at the door and she looks through the peephole and sees “Dan.” He breaks through the door and Melissa escapes and runs to Sam and Dean’s hotel room.
Melissa tells them that she told her hairdresser about the affair. Her hairdresser is a “white witch.” They figure out that she got a spell. They figure it is a curse, not a spell. It’s a kiss of death curse that is transmittable, or as Dean likes to say, “a magic STD.” Dan breaks into the hotel room and Dean kisses the wife in order to draw the curse to himself. The figure shifts shape into a woman, behind the curtain.
Sam chastises Dean for taking on the curse and playing the martyr. Sam and Dean try to figure out how to deal with what they are facing. They ask Melissa about the white witch. They go to the salon, which is called the “Art of Dyeing.” Ha. They give Melissa a knife and tell her to protect herself while they go and investigate the salon. They break into the salon’s basement and into a locked cabinet filled with witchcraft paraphernalia. They are dealing with a Qareen who is heartless and manifests as the victim’s deepest, darkest desire before killing them for their heart. They play rock, paper, scissors and finally, Dean wins! Sam goes upstairs to find the original heart, which may belong to Sonya, the hairdresser. They have to find the heart and kill it to take out the Qareen. We see that he is being watched and then he is confronted by the hairdresser. Dean calls out to Sam to see if he found anything. Amara then appears.
Sonya has Sam captured. She tells him that someone has to get vengeance on these cheating men. “Amara” tells Dean to give into his desire and not feel the shame as Sonya tells Sam that some women are just idiots for wanting the relationships to work. Dean stops Amara from stealing his heart as Sonya puts a spell on Sam. Melissa stops Sonya as we switch back to the fight between Dean and Amara. Sam shoots Sonya and destroys the heart as Amara is about to take Dean’s. Amara evaporates into thin air.
Sam checks on Dean and sees that he’s okay. Dean rushes out and Sam sees evidence of the struggle and realizes that Dean met his darkest desire. Sam asks who was the darkest desire. Dean confesses that it was Amara. Sam is not surprised. Sam reassures Dean that he’s not weak or evil. He didn’t have a choice. Dean wants to kill her but he says when he’s near her, he can’t seem to take her down. Dean hates doing it to Sam but when it comes down to it, he’s not sure he can resist Amara. Sam tells Dean not to worry and that he’s got it.
I quite enjoyed this, but I am a Snarmelo fan.

2. What is Dean feeling for Amara? Is it love? Is it enchantment? Neither. As Jensen said, she's kryptonite.
3. What do you think Sam will do now that he knows? He'll step up, because he's great and smart and useful this season.
4. What did you think of the Monster of the Week? Pretty weak. Er-what was it?
This was a real throw-away episode. I'm not one to criticize much, but this one was pretty lackluster, especially after the last 3 episodes.
1. What did you think of the interchange between Dean and Sam at the end? Excellent. By facing fake Anara, Dean had to be honest with himself finally - and as soon as he did that, he was honest with his brother. And, loved how intuitive and supportive Sam was. As said in season 9 - these guys are so much stronger when they are together!
2. What is Dean feeling for Amara? Is it love? Is it enchantment? He is so drawn to her: loses his will. I do not think it is love, but like Dean, I don't understand it yet.
3. What do you think Sam will do now that he knows? He will save his brother, just like he has done before. And like Dean has saved him. And they will work together to save the world again, compensating for each others' weaknesses.
4. What did you think of the Monster of the Week? I liked how they psyched us out, figuring out what it was. Not a lot of time for the monsters - witch and creature - to babble on about their viewpoints. I liked that too - the monster rambling has sometimes slowed the show down in the past.
I was pleased at Sam's calm response and understanding -- They have brought Sam a long way in maturity and exceptence this season. I am however concerned with Sam's facial emotions at the end He is really concerned.
The only other thing I would like to mention is all the MOTW episodes have had a running theme - Love & Betrayal This is also a worry ( and no news on S12 ) :(:(:(:(:(
But its strange how Jared is away from set at the moment "catching up on work & family in Austin " https://twitter.com/jarpad/status/697576738239471617
I believe we have until the end of March ?? Thats when the final decisions are made ? We knew about Season 11 in January 2015
This season has been so great and everything feels like a clean up of loose ends. Bring Sam & Dean back as the wonderful Brothers that we knew. Bring back past actors to say a final goodbye, this season has a unusual vibe to it Jared & Jensen seem so happy at the cons and talk very convincingly about wanting to keep going, but maybe somethings changed :(:(:(:(:(:(
Yes, I love my 'Chocolate Rules'
2. It isn't love or desire - not in the flesh. I think it's more of a soul type of bonding, not by Dean's choice.
3. Sam will do everything he can to free Dean from Amara's hold and also help free him from his "martyr" frame of mind. Because Sam is an awesome brother and always has been, and I am so glad that the writers have finally decided to show us that instead of just leaving it up to the viewer's interpretation. As a new fan in season 9 I was shocked to discover there was a lot of Sam hate out there, but seeing the difference this season in how his character has been written, I think I understand better now.
4. So the monster was some sort of shapeshifter hybrid that was summoned by a witch who took hearts? Apparently I'm confused on that one, but it doesn't seem to matter much. The best parts of the episode were the brothers bantering and the heartfelt, no secrets sharing. NO SECRETS!

i'm also pretty optimistic about a s12. Based on talk from the boys, talk from the network heads and the boost in viewers, I don't think they've run out of steam yet....I think they'll likely give it another year. It's not so easy to say goodbye to the best job you've ever had....what they have, they'll never have it again....it's a phenomenon and a gift....and although they know it can't go on forever, they might want to hang onto it for as long as they could...until they're really ready to say goodbye. ;)

From that point on, it picked up. The conversations were more engaging, Melissa became fun. Her reaction when Dean offered her a beer, haha ... and when she saw the contents of the trunk. One of the more bearable victims they've had in a while.
"Witch-killing bullets". :)
Even their interactions once they figured out what they were hunting in the Salon's basement. Good writing that really brought to the forefront how well these two guys can be when they throw dialogue back & forth like that. Even when it's not earth shattering main myth-arc related. Especially when it's not earth shattering main myth-arc related.
Rock, paper, scissors. Best moment of the season. Dean's subdued elation was priceless.
This would have been a solid B+ filler episode had it not been for that first half. I realise at this point it's serialized television, but you'd think they'd try a little more often for filler episodes not to be so run-of-the-mill . Despite the mood they tried to make in the beginning with the music and camera work, it was about as suspenseful as a fart in a bathtub. A little more creativity from the jump-off, and this could have been a really nice episode whilst we wait for the main story to kick off again.
And that train whistle was loud!
2. What is Dean feeling for Amara? Is it love? Is it enchantment? It is still a puzzle and might I say that Emily must have so much fun playing Amara/Fake Amara (Never thought I would say that about her) She was pretty scary and lovely (don't judge me) when she was kicking ass and taking names like it was no big deal for her.
3. What do you think Sam will do now that he knows? Be the rock, "the big brother" and guard Dean from Amara/The D.
4. What did you think of the Monster of the Week? It run by so fast. It was an ancient being from a curse? A bad genie of sorts. Anyway, love when we get new monsters but in first viewing the name didn't stuck on my head.
I liked the episode. It had old time feeling on it and really great quest actors. Season 11 have really stepped up it's game and I hope it sticks. It is so good though that I hope this is not a Swang Song for Supernatural. Though, I would think they would announce if a season would be SPN's last before it starts or in half way so I am not worried. :)

I agree the guys deserve a break. The crew deserves a break as well - a lot of them have been with the show since day one.
I love that this show, that I once enjoyed so much, then stopped watching for several years due to my frustration with the writing, then binged watched the seasons I missed because I couldn't stay away - this show came back to me this year and I came back to it. And I am so happy about that.
Then there was that closing scene which captured perfectly the other aspect of the brotherly dynamic that is the reason I am addicted to this show: the depth of the love, caring and support between the brothers. I thought every word spoken by both of them was perfect. Dean finally came clean, and his previous silence made sense to me. It was not so much that he feared appearing weak before Sam, though that was an element in it. Rather, it was more that he is terrified that when push actually comes to shove he will let Sam down by being unable to kill Amara. Jensen beautifully portrayed the mix of emotions Dean is feeling, in a way that was heartbreaking. Sam's response also captured so much that I love about that character. I've been frustrated that he hasn't picked up on all of the signs that there is something amiss with Dean, when in fact he had noticed (smart Sam-yay!) and was seemingly waiting patiently for Dean to explain. Like Jensen, Jared knocked it out of the park in this scene. I just loved the way he reassured Dean that he "got this." Those last shots of Sam, after Dean left the room, looking so somber and conveying the worry that he tried to conceal from Dean, were very ominous. I guess now we will see Dean let Sam "take the wheel" as Carver put it.
Aside from the brothers, I still found it an enjoyable MOTW, and like Gracie I actually jumped a few times. The show went years without a single scary scene, which I really missed, and now we've had a couple of eps that were genuinely scary. My only quibble with the ep is that the actual explanation of the monster didn't bear close examination because it didn't really make a lick of sense. The kiss didn't truly seem to transmit the curse because you can bet the wife had kissed the baby yet the baby was never targeted. And you can't explain it by saying that only a kiss of romantic love will transmit the disease because as irresistible as he might be, I don't think Melissa had instantly fallen in love with Dean. So while I enjoyed the misdirection about it being a shifter, and I liked how the creature was portrayed in the scenes where it ripped out the victims' hearts, it was a pretty shaky premise. I also was unimpressed by the witch, and her explanation didn't make much sense either. But I honestly didn't care that much about the logic gaps because everything else in the episode worked for me.
I still can't understand what exactly is going on behind the scenes that the show is referencing so many elements and plots from the earlier seasons, and doing it so beautifully IMO. But I hope it continues because I am just blown away by how great this season is.
E, can't you just watch it online on CWTV? You might not like the whole ep, but there were some terrific bro scenes that I think you'd really like.
That's interesting about the writers/directo r similarities. Snyder/Carmelo are hit and miss sometimes (not nearly as bad as another writing duo who shall not be mentioned!) and My Heart Will Go On wasn't terrible either. But they also wrote Mannequin 3 (on my all time worst episode list) and the drearily dull Halt and Catch Fire.
1. What did you think of the interchange between Dean and Sam at the end? As I said above; weird. I felt Sam's reaction was of a surprise. I was expecting him to be shocked or worried. But as others have said he figured it out. Smart Sam..
2. What is Dean feeling for Amara? Is it love? Is it enchantment? Maybe compulsion?
3. What do you think Sam will do now that he knows? I have an inkling he'll become so determined to stop Amara's hold on Dean he may just slip up, such as trusting Lucifer.
4. What did you think of the Monster of the Week? Well its a new one! I liked it. Curious though if Sam had kissed the cursed girl who would his murder girl be?
I agree with your response to number three about Sam being so desperate that he may end up trusting or turning to Lucifer. Eep!
2. I believe Dean when he says it isn't love or desire. It's just a pull, a compulsion, like a spell that he can't fight. I feel bad for him.
3. I don't know what Sam's going to do, but I think he's going to work even harder to help, and try to make sure that Dean isn't put in a situation where he has to choose, although I think that might be what it comes down to.
4. I'm sorry, but the rest of the episode was kind of lame. I'm with Russ. Except for the brother exchanges, the first part was really dull and poorly written. I thought the dialogue was clunky and the whole thing about an affair with the baby sitter was cliché. The poor secretary's name was Gladys? And she called the babysitter buxom? Seriously? The boys actually both said he was "schtupping" the babysitter? What is this, the 1960's? Ridiculous.
And I can tell you that he didn't learn that from anyone in his family.
It was well done; best part of a so-so episode. I mentioned in comments earlier this season that Sam already knew something was up and was waiting for Dean to bring it up. If Sam had forced the issue, Dean would have just shut down. Good to see Dean finally admit it, and Sam knows his brother very well; his response was good, dare I say mature, and was what Dean needed to hear.
2. What is Dean feeling for Amara? Is it love? Is it enchantment?
Still a little unclear to me; maybe an addiction? He is definitely under her thrall; I hope they start getting in to this and don't go the MoC route and drag it out forever.
3. What do you think Sam will do now that he knows?
Sam will have to step up and take the lead in trying to kill Amara, or stuff her back in wherever she crawled out from. But... when push comes to shove, will Dean defend Amara and stop Sam, or will stopping Amara involve sacrificing Dean?
4. What did you think of the Monster of the Week?
OK I guess... we've had two consecutive episodes of monsters that the show does not handle particularly well; vampires and witches. Now that Rowena is dead, I've had enough with witches and can use a break from them.

This episode was mediocre; first half was slow but things picked up in the second half. Could do without Dean spitting out food all over the place; that's kind of been done to death already. Not sure what the whole RPS thing was about; Dean has already beaten Sam at RPS (but under SUpernatural circumstances). If it had a deeper meaning e.g. Sam doesn't know Dean as well as he thought, then that contradicted the closing scene where Sam knew exactly what was going on.
I understand the need for filler episodes at the point in the season but it really hurts any momentum that's been building.
Jared Padelecki is set to return to Netflix’s four-episode Gilmore Girls continuation as Dean, TVLine has confirmed. The Supernatural actor’s casting ensures that the upcoming revival will feature Rory’s three most significant love interests (joining Matt Czuchry’s Logan and Milo Ventimiglia’s Jess).
I do like the scenario though:
"So Dean what've you been up to?"
"Well I changed my name became a serial killer, almost destroyed and saved the world a few times and I went to hell. And you?"
It will be really strange to see Jared play a character named Dean, then go back to playing Sam, with Dean by his side. A little reminiscent of French Mistake.
*Logan and Jess get one look at Dean* "Awh shit!" *both run away*
*Rory falls in love all over again, finally realizing what she had and lost in Dean/Jared* "Oh Dean, you've changed! You're so mature and sexy, and confident and, and did I say sexy?!?"
Dean/Jared: "Yeah, you should have caught my "night moves" in my brothers '67 Chevy! Oh well, see ya! People to save, things to kill..."
Out of frustration Rory sets Stars Hollow on fire, starting with Lukes Diner… Loreleis Inn is the only building left standing. Everyone in town moves in. Taylor claims imminent domain, confiscates the Inn and renames it Stars Hollow Two. The town is saved.
The End.
Love is Dean's strength. I think that is the,key to stopping Amara and not violence or Patriarchal bullish@! that impressions her.
This, soothe, season of girl power after all.
I wouldn’t really have expected any different from Sam. He doesn’t criticise or get angry at Dean, even when Dean does wrong. Sam tends to just accept and give support. I think Sam gave the kind of speech he’d have loved to have heard, but never did, any of the times when he was struggling.
And well done to Dean. Half a season in and he finally managed to tell the truth. Something he expects from Sam instantly.
2. What is Dean feeling for Amara? Is it love? Is it enchantment?
Enchantment, compulsion, something he has no control over. Except when he has enough control to try and kill her. Who knows? I think the groundwork there has been laid pretty badly.
3. What do you think Sam will do now that he knows?
He’ll (sporadically, because there needs to be fillers) go gung ho after Amara. What will be interesting will be how Dean reacts to that. I know that many people are delighted that the brothers seems to be back in sync etc etc, but this show in rooted in brotherly conflict. Since Carver took the reins, half of every season has been spent with Dean pissed at Sam about something. There’s no reason to believe this season will be any different. If Sam does something that Dean doesn’t want him to do, then don’t be surprised if there’s a return to that type of ‘relationship’.
4. What did you think of the Monster of the Week?
Not a lot, to be honest.
Leave thoughts, feelings, other stuffs below!
Unfortunately, my overriding feeling after watching this episode was frustration. Nothing changes with Dean. Nothing ever changes. He has learned nothing from the past. This episode, Dean goes and does some boneheaded thing, knowing that Sam will follow him, Sam gets hurt, and Dean expects to be thanked. Jeez, where have we seen that before?? Oh yeah, Mark of Cain. And the possession. And selling his soul. And the list goes on. Was trying to kill his brother (twice) not lesson enough for him??
Is it too much to expect some sort of development for Dean, for him to grow as a character? Maybe my frustration should be aimed at myself for expecting better from Dean.
