"A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles." — Christopher Reeve

If the boys could ever feel like fish out of water, their hunt during this episode would have been it. Even if they were dressed like rock stars with leather jackets and sunglasses in LA, they just didn't fit in. I don't know the reason why they felt so opposite from their surroundings but maybe that was the point? Sure enough, after this episode I was glad they normally choose the quiet back roads and keep themselves under the radar while hunting. It does not change the fact that LA felt very real and a pretty grim, intolerable environment. We were shown the very dark side of show business.

That is not the direction for the fan video of this week, though. The inspirational idea rose from the finale of the episode where all of our regulars got to be a hero, each in their own time. The last minutes of the episode were very rich with spectacular scenes. Dean trying to cuff Lucifer, Castiel decking Lucifer with a guitar, Crowley gaining the group those few seconds, but best of all was Sam f*****g Winchester holding the door against Lucifer's powers so that the people could escape his wrath. There is also a great shot with Sam and Dean with a cross is shining behind them.

I will miss those leather jackets and one thing is for sure, I am sorry to see Rick Springfield leave as the vessel of Lucifer. He was great. Here are some gif treats from the episode and those scenes. Also in the end I linked the official the Bloody Messiah music video if you have not seen it yet. You should check it out.

Supernatural I Heroes of our time made by: TheDoctorDiaries

Heroes by Måns Zelmerlöw

Don't tell the gods I left a mess
I can't undo what has been done
Let's run for cover
What if I'm the only hero left
You better fire off your gun
Once and forever
He said go dry your eyes
And live your life like there is no tomorrow, son
And tell the others
To go sing it like a hummingbird
The greatest anthem ever heard:

We are the heroes of our time
But we're dancing with the demons in our minds...
We are the heroes of our time
Hero-uh-o-o-oes
O-uh-o-o-oh
We're dancing with the demons in our minds
Hero-uh-o-o-oes O-uh-o-o-oh

The crickets sing a song for you
Don't say a word, don't make a sound
It's life's creation
I make worms turn into butterflies
Wake up and turn this world around
In appreciation
He said I never left your side
When you were lost I followed right behind
Was your foundation
Now go sing it like a hummingbird
The greatest anthem ever heard:

We are the heroes of our time
Hero-uh-o-o-oes
O-uh-o-o-oh
We're dancing with the demons in our minds
Hero-uh-o-o-oes O-uh-o-o-oh

(We keep dancing with the demons
You could be a hero)

Go sing it like a hummingbird
The greatest anthem ever heard
Now sing together....

We are the heroes of our time
Hero-uh-o-o-oes
O-uh-o-o-oh
But we're dancing with the demons in our minds
Hero-uh-o-o-oes O-uh-o-o-oh
We are the heroes of our time
Hero-uh-o-o-oes
O-uh-o-o-oh
But we're dancing with the demons in our minds
Hero-uh-o-o-oes O-uh-o-o-oh

We are the heroes

Quotes:

Dean: Ohh, Sam. Hair rock? Really?
Sam: It's not hair-
Dean: Come on.
Sam: It's not hair rock, Dean. It's hard rock. It's legitimate hard rock.
Dean: Wow.
Sam: Don't judge a book by its cover.
Dean: Yeah, or a dude by his, uh, rainbow wig and leopard prints.
Sam: Rainbow wig? What? You know what? I'm done apologizing. Lucifer possessed Vince Vincente. This is Vince Vincente's music, so listening to it is research.

Dean: Hey. You consider switching up your duds there> Bit stiff for this town.
Sam: He could be an agent or something.
Dean: Yeah, maybe a third-tier agent.
Castiel: At least I don't look like a lumberjack.

Dean: Why are you doing this?
Lucifer: Why?
Sam: You and God made up. You forgave Him. What would He think?
Lucifer: I'm not especially interested in His opinion. Dear old Dad, He finally apologized for abandoning me and what's the very next thing He does? He ditches me. And you, too, by the way. And rides off into the sunset with Auntie Amara. He needed my help, and He'd say anything to get it. His words, your words, they mean nothing. Don't you get it? This is all meaningless. Heaven. Hell. This world. If it ever meant anything that moment is past. Nothing down here but a bunch of hopeless distraction addicts, so filled with emptiness, so desperate to fill up the void... They don't mind being served another stale rerun of a rerun of a rerun. You know what my plan is? I don't have one. I'm just gonna keep on smashing Daddy's already broken toys, and make you watch.

Music

Bad Dog Blues by The Rob Donnelly Band (Cavendish Music Library)
Bloody Messiah by Ladyheart
Next by Chapel of Rock

Minutiae:

While Gordy and Adam are attempting to summon Lucifer, a record is being played in reverse. Backmasking has been alleged to contain Satanist messages, most famously Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" which alleges to have the message "Here's to my sweet Satan" backmasked.

Roseleen carves Vince Vincente's name on her chest with a knife. One Slayer fan famously carved the band's name into his skin, on the inside of his forearm. Slayer's music and albums often reference Satanic imagery, and Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman once said, "We read a lot from the Satanic bible" for publicity, as lead guitarist Kerry King is an avowed atheist and singer/bass player Tom Araya is a practicing Catholic.

The Ladyheart song "Bloody Messiah" (watch the music video here) was co-written by composer Jay Gruska and writer Robert Berens. This is not the first time that a writer has co-written music for the show. Former writer Ben Edlund co-wrote and performed the "Ghostfacers Theme" in 3.13 Ghostfacers with Christopher Lennertz and former showrunner Jeremy Carver co-wrote "Together (The Supernatural Sitcom Theme)" alongside Jay Gruska for 5.08 Changing Channels.
