Yes, I've still got a few honors I must bestow on Season 11 before I put it behind me.  You saw our Fan Choice Awards then our Staff Awards, and now it's time for the Editor's Choice Awards!  In other words, one overly opinionated red head has a few more things to dish out for fun, just because she can!

Best Teaser

“Don’t Call Me Shurley”

Don t call me shurley 067

That was an attention getter, even if it didn’t involve Sam and Dean at all.   For one, you always win with a cute dog.  There was even an act of human compassion when Metatron gave his sandwich found in the dumpster to his starving furry friend.  Animals sell!  Second, it’s Chuck and he’s finally freaking God confirmed!   Third, awesome VFX when Metatron put on the glasses and Chuck revealed his true self.   Handel’s Messiah - Hallelujah Chorus was only icing on the cake.

Worst Teaser

“We Happy Few”

Seriously, a normal family fight between God and Lucifer as if they were humans quarreling over a messy room?  The very fearsome and most diabolical Lucifer being reduced to pissy teenager status?  Ugh, and that was only the beginning.

Best Skin Crawling Moment

spn1107 0540

The back and forth closeups to that bloody bunny head staring at Sam and Dean through the jail bars?   Shivers man, shivers.

spn1107 0565

The homicidal clown actually felt tame compared to the bunny and the clown was frightening!

Best MOTW

“Safe House”

spn1116 2500

Why oh why haven’t we had a Soul Eater before?  A creature that actually pulls people into another dimension, aka where time and space have no meaning?  There’s your “Mystery Spot!”  The fact that Bobby and Dean could see each other even though in their worlds they were years apart is just awesome.  Actually, the entire lore behind the Soul Eater is interesting.  That's awesome they can find a MOTW so rich in season 11!

Worst MOTW

“The Chitters”

spn1119 2629

Cicada bug type human eating/mating thing that pops up every 17 years or so?  Yeah, no.

The awards continue on Page 2...

Most Gruesome Injury

“Red Meat”

I think we’ve dwelled on enough what getting shot and bleeding all over the place while falling into shock did to Sam, but have we looked at Dean’s ordeal?

RM 12

Dean foaming at the mouth and seizing after overdosing on barbiturates is pretty jarring, don't you think?  What a fantastic parallel, showing both of them in subsequent shots falling to the ground from their ordeals.  Actually, in this sequence both of them had it pretty bad, so who was worse off?  I winced a bit more at Sam though since his fall managed to start the free flow of blood again after coming out of shock.  Still, it was Dean that actually died, so by default he wins this one.

That's gotta hurt.

Episode Where I Can’t Remember a Damn Thing That Happened

“The Bad Seed”

Sure, it’s the third episode of the season, so it’s easily to forget one so young in a new season, but I remember plenty of episode threes from other seasons.  This one just didn’t stand out.  I definitely didn’t love it, but it didn’t leave me seething over the fact that 42 minutes of my life was wasted.  I just don’t plain recall any of it!  I’ll never quote anything from it.  I’ll never go back and earmark where something important canonically happened.  It’s just another name on a long list of episodes to me.  This picture illustrates PERFECTLY how I feel about the episode.

Best Failed Slogan Pitch for the Local Tourism Board

s11e07 561 Donna Smile

“Here's hoping something less murderous brings you back to Minnesota, like Prince or Cheese Curd Fest.”

Yeah, I don’t think Sheriff Donna will be earning a spot on the Chamber of Commerce any time soon.

Best One Tortured Look Tells the Entire Heart Crushing Story Moment

“Don’t Call Me Shurley”

Don t call me shurley 629

Say what you want about Metatron, but the whole redemption story became worth it from this one look alone.  Wow can Curtis Armstrong sell empathy and heartbreak.
This might also qualify as “Best Puppy Dog Moment.”  Talk about being kicked.

Best Shoutout to a Domestic Goddess

"Don't Call Me Shurley"

spn1120 0355

Dean Winchester, ironing shirts.  Not just his shirt, but his brother’s!  Awww, what a cool mom.  Okay, yes, he was ironing with beer instead of water, but man that took the wrinkles right out of that shirt, did it not?

Best Impersonation

Misha Collins as Lucifer

normal The vessel 206

I know many of you would give this the worst award, but I think the idea was half baked.  The writing often pure ass, that's for sure.  The performance was not.  He did an amazing job.

Worst Impersonation

spn1107 0648

Who thought it was a good idea to give Sam the Roger Rabbit, "You were framed" line?  There the writers go reversing Sam and Dean lines again.  I half expected this to happen next.

The “Floor…Thud…Me” Winchester Moment of the Season

"Hell's Angel"

Oh, there were a few l, but I wasn’t quite expecting this to happen when the Scooby Gang had another one of their schemes in the church.

Best BFFs on the Planet That Were Assured to Face a Grizzly End

Stunt Demon #3 and Stunt Angel #4

s11e03 238

Wait, that happened in  “The Bad Seed?”  Okay, there’s something I do remember about that episode after all.  It’s a scene I’ve been dying to see since season four.  But alas, the angel was toasted by Amara in “O’ Brother Where Art Thou?”  Couldn’t the demon have been shown at least having a toast to his fallen frenemy in the bar later?  Either that or another angel stepped in as a substitute, since these stunt demons and angels are interchangeable.

Best Resolution of a Dangling Plot Thread That Should Have Been Resolved Eons Ago

“All in the Family”

11.21 26

Rest in Peace Kevin Tran.  Your trip up to Heaven was long overdue.  Thank God that God was in the building to give us that very hasty but satisfying resolution.

Okay, yeah, God would have been the obvious choice here as well, but here me out.  Were you really happy with that resolution?  They brought Chuck back for THAT?  He didn’t get a chance to tell Castiel thanks for all his devotion and service, he didn’t get to energize Heaven and give the angels new hope, and he didn’t even get to have a small chat with his very faithful and loyal servant, Sam Winchester!  No, instead he complained about him to Metatron.  He was just there and everyone was cool with it like he was a messy houseguest.  All Dean had to do was talk Amara down from her temper tantrum?  I rest my case.  Kevin got the better end of the deal.

Best (or Maybe Worst) Product Placement

spn1106 0559

The shoutout makes sense since “Supernatural” found a whole new generation of viewers thanks to the online service.  I’ll have to leave it up to the masses though to decide if the multiple episodes spent on Castiel, an angel that doesn’t sleep, embracing the concept of binge watching was useless filler for his character or not.  Seems to me they could have found a better use of his time, but isn’t that the dangers of binge viewing?  Then were they essentially shunning those that found this show from this very same habit?  Yeah, maybe it’s best not to think about it too much.  I’ve got a lot of "House of Cards" and "Orange is the New Black" to catch up on.

Biggest “Ouch My Heart Moment”

“Alpha and Omega”

Alpha and omega 422
Alpha and omega 423

Sure, this whole scene is pretty emotional, but I'll explain why this particular gesture alone makes my heart go a flutter.  Because of what happens after this.  Think of it, this sweet, sentimental gesture of a son honoring a mother he never knew, and the world proceeds after this to kick Sam in the nuts.  He thinks his brother, the one person in this whole world that means everything to him, has sacrified himself to save the world.  He's captured by a foreign branch of the entity he cherishes to be a legacy member, and if you saw what I saw at Comic Con, things are about to get horrific for Sam.  They think he's a bad guy!  He was the devout one too.  He was the one that cared for God and fetched water for him.  It just kills me when he's constantly thrown in distress for no good reason.

Best (or Perhaps Worst) Use of Misplaced Optimism that Fell Apart an Episode Later

“Don’t Call Me Shurley” – The amulet returns!

11.20 566 Glowing Amulet

“All in the Family,” “We Happy Few,” “Alpha and Omega”- Amulet?  What amulet?

Most Completely Over the Top and Completely Memorable Motel Room

“Thin Lizzie”

spn1105 0488

Not only did it look like that several generations of grandmothers threw up in there, but only one bed!  You think Sam and Dean would have shared if push came to shove?  I’m sure there is droves of fan fiction that went and answered that question.

Best Beacon of Hope in an Otherwise Cruel, Cruel World

“Hell’s Angel”
sup1118 1553

The AKF building.  Especially right now in these crazy, dangerous times, a beacon of hope is exactly what we all need.
That’s a wrap on Season 11!  Any special awards you’d like to give out?  Please share!  I’m certain I missed hundreds.
