"You didn't need a weapon at all when you were born one.― Sarah J. Maas, Heir of Fire

My fifth tribute to Supernatural characters was to two of Supernatural’s fiercest and most absolute archangels, Alternate Universe (AU) Michael and Raphael. Not wanting to add to their already intense sibling rivalry, I thought we should complete the archangel series with Gabriel and Lucifer! Since Mark Pellegrino's birthday is in a few days, this is the perfect time to turn our attention to the youngest archangel and his big bro! You know, it is not easy to be an archangel in Supernatural. You have daddy issues (like a lot) and you probably die a few times, though in Supernatural that is not surprising.

This article is special because it includes two champions: Gabriel, being the only archangel to have only one vessel, and Lucifer as the opposite, having the most vessels/illusions. The last video I chose is a top 15 list of powerful angels.

Enjoy the videos!

Hold
Hold on
Hold on to me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteady
Hold
Hold on
Hold on to me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteady

Momma
Come here
Approach
Appear
Daddy
I'm alone
'Cause this house don't feel like home

If you love me
Don't let go
If you love me
Don't let go

Hold
Hold on
Hold on to me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteady
Hold
Hold on
Hold on to me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteady

Mother
I know
That you're tired of being alone
Dad I know you're trying
To fight when you feel like flying

But if you love me
Don't let go
If you love me
Don't let go

Hold
Hold on
Hold on to me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteady
Hold
Hold on
Hold on to me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteady
Hold
Hold on
Hold on to me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteady

Quotes

Shut your cake hole. You don't know anything about my family. I love my Father, my brothers. Love them. But watching them turn on each other? Tear at each other's throats? I couldn't bear it! Okay? So I left. And now it's happening all over again.
– Gabriel, 5.08 "Changing Channels"

"You sorry sons of bitches. Why do you think you two are the vessels? Think about it. Michael, the big brother, loyal to an absent father, and Lucifer, the little brother, rebellious of Daddy's plan. You were born to this, boys. It's your destiny! It was always you! As it is in heaven, so it must be on earth. One brother has to kill the other."
– Gabriel, 5.08 "Changing Channels"
"And you think I could fix it? Gosh. I skipped out on Heaven, Castiel. They wouldn't want me back. As far as they're concerned, I'm a screwup. Hell, as far as I'm' concerned, I'm a screwup."
– Gabriel, 13.21 "Beat the Devil"

Dear old Dad... He finally apologized for abandoning me and whats the very next thing He does?! He ditches me... And you, too, by the way, and rides off into the sunset with auntie Amara.... He needed my help... and He'd say anything to get it... His words, your words, they mean nothing... Don't you get it? This is all meaningless! Heaven. Hell... This world... If it ever meant anything that moment is passed... Nothing down here but a bunch of hopeless distraction addicts... So filled with emptiness, so desperate to fill up the void... They don't mind being served another stale rerun of a rerun of a rerun... You know what my plan is? I don't have one! I'm just going to keep on smashing Daddy's already broken toys, and making you watch!
– Lucifer, 12.07 "Rock Never Dies"
"You people misunderstand me. You call me 'Satan' and 'devil,' but... Do you know my crime? I loved God too much. And for that, he betrayed me—punished me. Just as he's punished you. After all, how could God stand idly by while that man broke into your home and butchered your family in their beds? There are only two rational answers, Nick—either he's sadistic, or he simply doesn't care. You're angry. You have every right to be angry. I am angry, too. That's why I want to find him—hold him accountable for his actions. Just because he created us doesn't mean he can toy with us, like playthings."
– Lucifer, 5.01 "Sympathy for the Devil"
"You know why God cast me down? Because I loved him. More than anything. And then God created... You. The little... hairless apes. And then he asked all of us to bow down before you—to love you, more than him. And I said, 'Father, I can't.' I said, 'These human beings are flawed, murderous.' And for that, God had Michael cast me into Hell. Now, tell me, does the punishment fit the crime? Especially, when I was right? Look at what six billion of you have done to this thing, and how many of you blame me for it."
– Lucifer, 5.04 "The End"
"I was a son. A brother, like you, a younger brother, and I had an older brother who I loved. Idolized, in fact. And one day I went to him and I begged him to stand with me, and Michael—Michael turned on me. Called me a freak. A monster. And then he beat me down. All because I was different. Because I had a mind of my own."
– Lucifer, 5.10 "Abandon All Hope..."

Trivia and Minutiae

While Gabriel's appearance in 9.18 "Meta Fiction" is left somewhat vague as to if it was really Gabriel or just an illusion, especially since Gabriel doesn't answer if he's real or not, later events confirm that it really was just an illusion of Gabriel and not the real archangel. At that time, the real Gabriel was held prisoner by Asmodeus and thus couldn't have been a participant in Metatron's plot, willingly or unwillingly.

Gabriel's counterpart in Apocalypse World is referenced by Michael's immediate recognition of his brother in 13.22 "Exodus". However, it is unknown what ultimately became of the alternate Gabriel.

According to A Dictionary of Angels, Lucifer is erroneously equated with the Devil (the fallen angel) due to a misreading of Isaiah 14:12: "How art thou fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning," (Lucifer connotes star, and applies to the morning star - that is, Venus - instead of an angel) an apostrophe which applied to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. It should be pointed out that the authors of the books of the Old Testament knew nothing of fallen or evil angels, and do not mention them. The name "Lucifer" was applied to the Devil by St. Jerome and other Church Fathers. Milton in Paradise Lost applied the name to the demon of sinful pride. Dutch writer Vondel uses Lucifer in lieu of the Devil.

Satan in the Hebrew means “the opponent” or “adversary.” There’s a reason for that too. Satan is what he became after his crime. He was the morning star, and now he’s the adversary. Since the days of Adam, he has been known as Satan. People don’t trace back what is written in Revelation 20:2 back to the serpent written of in Genesis with Adam and Eve. “And he laid hold on the dragon, THAT OLD SERPENT, which is the devil and Satan and bound him for a thousand years.”
