The Boys are back, AGAIN! Season 3 of the hit series received an early pick up and will be returning to Amazon Prime! The Boys' producers, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg made the announcement during their San Diego Comic-Con@Home panel. Exactly when season 3 will begin filming remains a mystery, though, as the producers acknowledged, 'it's anyone's guess when or where we can film season 3'! Eric Kripke shared the news on Twitter along with a season 2 trailer and the announcement that there will be a new after-show hosted by Aisha Tyler!

Starting tonight, ”Supernatural” will have a new partner in the CW Thursday night lineup.  Here at The Winchester Family Business, we thought it would be fun to get to know “Legacies,” the latest installment in “The Vampire Diaries“ franchise.

For those that remember that poignant series finale of “The Vampire Diaries,” the one that gave closure for the main characters, you may have noticed that clever opening left by creator Julie Plec for another story or two to tell.  Last season, when “The Vampire Diaries” spinoff, “The Originals,” was coming to a close, Plec had the ideal pitch for The CW, who was looking for another legacy show for it’s lineup.  What if Hope Mikaelson came to Mystic Falls?  Better yet, how about she goes to the school for supernatural children that her own father helped create with his generous donation, The Salavatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted?

Back in July at Comic Con, I got to speak to executive producers Julie Plec and Brett Matthews, as well as lead actors Danielle Rose Russell (Hope Mikaelson) and Matt Davis (Alaric Saltzman).  They were all very enthusiastic about this new opportunity, which Matt Davis refused to call another spinoff.  He called “Legacies” part three of a trilogy.   After all, just because two brothers named Salvatore were no longer in town, it doesn’t mean that crazy crap stopped happening in Mystic Falls, nor all the traditions that the town clung onto so fondly.  But is this just another rehash of “The Vampire Diaries” or is it darker like “The Originals?”

The CW midseason returns this week and it comes with the premiere of a new series, DC's "Black Lightning."  DC?  Another superhero show you say?  Yes, but this one doesn't exist in Arrowverse, despite being developed by the same Executive Producer Greg Berlanti.  It also features a popular African American hero from the comics, giving us a twist that has yet to be done in the superhero market that is big on TV right now.  Based on early buzz from the critics previews, this series stands pretty well on it's own.
Here at The Winchester Family Business, we like to follow distinguished alum and their new endeavors.  We are pretty excited to see our long time friend Sera Gamble hit another milestone today, the third season premiere of her critically acclaimed show The Magicians.
Everyone once in a while, we like to check out other CW shows.  Primarily, the superhero shows.  Believe if or not, "Supernatural" isn't the only show on the network!  Nate and Alice especially watch "Arrow" (okay, maybe just Alice), "The Flash," "Supergirl," (okay, maybe just Nate) and "Legends of Tomorrow."  So what happens when we both catch up during the holiday with this year's four part series crossover, "Crisis on Earth X"?  Lots of opinions, that's what!
San Diego Comic Con 2017 is this week! The most anticipated comic book, superhero, scifi/fantasy genre event of the year starts this Wednesday, July 19 and runs through Sunday, July 23. This is a major promotional event for Supernatural, with press and thousands of fans eagerly awaiting the panel and spoiler teases that are released on Sunday. This year is extra special as Jared and Jensen will be appearing on the prestigious late night talk show, Conan Wed night!

When Jeffrey Dean Morgan left Supernatural his career exploded.

Since leaving Supernatural at the end of season 7, showrunner Sera Gamble has been working her magic on a new fantasy thriller series, The Magicians. After a tantalizing 13 episode debut, The Magicians will begin its second season on Jan 25 on the Syfy network.

If you haven’t yet seen The Magicians, it’s a cross between Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia with more sex and relationship drama to spice it up a bit! The plots are complex and mysterious, and there is a good balance between strong male and female characters. The description of the show from The Syfy Channel website teases:

Based upon Lev Grossman's best-selling books, The Magicians centers around Brakebills University, a secret institution specializing in magic. There, amidst an unorthodox education of spellcasting, a group of twenty-something friends soon discover that a magical fantasy world they read about as children is all too real— and poses grave danger to humanity –

Following in Supernatural's footsteps, The Magicians is also filmed in Vancouver, Canada! Another member of the Supernatural family, Rick Worthy (the alpha vampire from seasons 6 and 7) plays a key role as the Dean of the higher education magic school.

I caught up Sera (who immediately recognized The WFB from her Supernatural days!) and the rest of the show’s talented, enthusiastic cast at San Diego Comic Con in July, 2016. They shared insights about their roles, behind-the-scenes stories of filming a magical adventure, and teasers of what’s in store for fans in season 2! Beware: SPOILERS! I'm saving the showrunners' and book author's interview for last. They share the most spoilers about the plots of season 2!
