Jared and Jensen Panel Report – Salute To Supernatural in San Francisco

Here’s my report on this afternoon’s Jared and Jensen panel at the Salute to Supernatural in San Francisco.  It was a great panel, although a bit more low key than others I’ve seen.  I’m not complaining though by any means.  Here’s the details that I could get while taking notes during the panel, so pardon if there are some omissions, scattered thoughts, some typos or slightly off quotes.

Both come out looking very fine, Jensen in a leather jacket and plaid shirt, Jared in an olive jacket, brown scarf, and plaid shirt.  They as usual are joking around with one another before getting things started.  Jared makes an off comments about asking people how many episodes did the boys kiss a girl.  
 
Jensen comes out giving NFL playoff updates, spoiling the outcome of the Chicago/Seattle game.  He’s been backstage keeping track.  Jared jokes for those that are TiVoing it, to call home and tell them to delete.  Jensen is still a bit bitter about the Texas Rangers.  “I think the Rangers were still gloating against their victory against the Yankees and forgot to show up to San Francisco.”  
 
They start questioning by their banging mics.  Oh yes, these guys are in a playful mood.  
 
First question, which is claimed to be the easy question.  “What’s on your iPods right now?”  Jared answers Glen Hansert.  Jensen, “This was the easy question?”  He mentions the Broken Bells album.  
 
“Was Sam’s pentagram in the anti-possession supposed to be inverted?”  Jared and Jensen are confused by the question.  “Yes, yours is upside down and his is right side up.”  Jared blurts instead, “How many episodes did the boys kiss a girl?”  The questioner has a quick answer for that.  “Too many to count because the boys are man whores.”  Yes, that’s a huge crowd pleaser.  Eventually, Jensen attributes it to a mistake by the makeup department.  “You didn’t look in the mirror?” The person asks.  They joke that they didn’t compare chests.  That sparks a ramble from Jared about t-zones.  
 
What was the song on the iPod in “Lazarus Rising?”  Jason Manns.  
 
The next question comes from a film school student.  First he comments on Jensen being sick (he hasn’t been feeling well this weekend).  He jokes, “I’m not really sick but it works” and points to Jared.  Anyway, the question.  What was it like directing “Weekend at Bobby’s?”  (Jared snores).  Jensen didn’t go to film school, so he went off his experience in television.  The film student likes that answer, joking that school is a total waste of time.  He also asked who he could pitch an idea too.  The writers and producers are only allowed to read ideas in a social forum.  They’re not allowed to read pitches.  
 
This is my FAVORITE question of the day, only because it came from my 12 year old daughter who was attending her very first convention today.  She was wearing her wool hat that looks like a seal (these animal hats, sold at Fisherman’s Wharf, are a big sensation in the Bay area).  Jared had commented on the hat in the photo-ops earlier and remembered it as a seal.  Anyway, the question.  “How do you deal with bad hair days?”  HUGE approval from her momma, since she loves Mom’s articles spoofing Sam Winchester’s hair.  The crowd loved it too.  “Do I have bad hair days?”  Jared asks.  “According to season three you do.”  Huge crowd laughter.  An audience member shouts he loves his hair so he sends a “take that” gesture to my girl.  Jensen comments that one falls on the hair department.  Jared then asks my daughter since she’s wearing a hat if she’s having a bad hair day.  She takes off the hat.  Jared then says her hair looks nice and that she showed them.  
 
I didn’t get the next question (couldn’t hear), but it’s a serious question about how they film certain scenes.  One answer I caught was from Jensen.  He said they really feed off of each other in the motel room scene.  They give each other a lot of feedback.  Jensen recalled Kim Manners commented that both of them had a real knack with finding the nuances of a scene.  
 
This next question came from Jenniffer, our WFB very own site admin.  She said she had a two part question.  That gets some joking around from Jared and Jensen, and then Jenniffer snorts while laughing.  Jensen tells her to step away from the mike and then mentions that Jared recently did that during a scene.  The question is about stunts.  What stunts have they had done that they wish they hadn’t done, and what stunts did they not do that they wish they had?  Jared wished he got to fly off the bridge in the Pilot.  Jensen said he doesn’t get to do any of the stunt driving.  When he does get to drive the Impala, he tries to be badass.  Jensen wishes he didn’t do the stunt when he hurts something.  Jared obviously wishes he didn’t do the stunt when he broke his wrist.  
 
I LOVE this next question.  It’s a man (trust me, that’s a rarity at these things) and he comments about how being married has forced him to watch certain shows he otherwise wouldn’t watch (he lists some of those shows).  As married men, which shows had they been forced to watch with their spouses?  Jensen, “Since you were so open and turned this into a convention confessional, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”  Jared moves chair away.  Then Clif Kosterman (their body guard) comes up to the mic.  “Neither one of these guys can make it through Extreme Makeover Home Edition.”  Jared’s show,  “Jersey Shore.”  He can’t blame Gen on that one though.  
 
Football update – Patriots up 3-0.
 
What are their future plans after Supernatural.  Jared – “Sleep, read a book.”  Jensen – “Plug myself back into society.”  
 
What is their weirdest and funniest moments on the set.  Jared recalled when Jensen bounced a water bottle, it flew up the rafter, bounced on the floor and into the trash can.  Jensen couldn’t think of anything.  Another story that came up was they were flinging candy around and Jared without looking caught one, then popped it into his mouth.  That story was way funnier watching both tose guys do the impression of that.  Hopefully Youtube has it.  “They could talk about things for days, for that’s what we do to pass the time.”  Jensen then remembered the time he caught 57 almonds in a row by tossing them up into the air and catching him with his mouth.  
 
“Supernatural” movie?  They aren’t sure if it will work.  If they had a backing studio and some money they would do it.  “We’re still counting our blessings that we’ve gone six seasons,” answers Jensen.    
 
Will John Winchester come back?  No, he’s a movie a star.  He wants to, but his agents won’t let him.  “Maybe if we make Supernatural the Movie he’ll come back,” Jensen answers.  He’s got a new baby too.
