  • Crowley, King Of Hearts: A Final Farewell

“Even when I lose, I win!” Beautiful and empowering words written by Mark Sheppard regarding Crowley and his final accomplishments in the show. As painful as this is to write, I assure you, it is even more painful to accept - but when has that ever stopped any of us? After all, Hell hath no fury like a fangirl scorned! The departure we were given in the finale left us gutted, angry, and confused. How do you say goodbye to someone who mastered saying “hello boys” so perfectly? I feel like no matter how hard I try to put my thoughts and emotions into words, nothing I write is good enough. To the characters on the show, Crowley was someone who was thought of only when needed most. But for me, he is someone who will absolutely never be forgotten.

"Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the painand treasure the most precious gift I have - life itself." — Walter Anderson

"Those who improve with age embrace the power of personal growth and personal achievement and begin to replace youth with wisdom, innocence with understanding, and lack of purpose with self-actualization." — Bo Bennet

Sometimes you forget how gruesome and disturbing Supernatural can be.

  • Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections "Family Feud”

"The gleam in their eyes telegraphs only too clearly that they are hoping for a headline, which of course means something disparaging, because nothing makes such good copy as a feud."— Chuck Palahniuk

Did you feel like they were trying to wrap up the loose ends for Crowley in season 12? If you look at the season as a whole, the hints were clear for his character. Crowley got a thank you from Sam and Dean. He got a hug from an innocent. His son’s story was tied up and Gavin returned to his own time to die. Rowena’s story was wrapped up and we got inside knowledge why she did what she did. She died in the finale. Crowley had a buddy comedy with Castiel and Dean and face off battle with Lucifer.

Do you now see how front and center Crowley was with his family and frenemies? He even saved the Winchesters and Cas a few times. And towards the end we even found out he had the Colt and the British Men of Letters were working with him. In the end he sacrificed himself because he was fond of the Winchesters more than demons and Hell. His last stand off with Lucifer and his “bye boys” was his “mischief managed” redemption swan song.

Crowley (Father Crowley,Fergus Roderick MacLeod, King of the Crossroads & King of Hell)
Played by Mark Sheppard, Lauren Tom (8.02), Marco Soriano (9.16) and Kirsten Robek (11.01)

Don't worry about -- what, like Lucifer didn't worry? Or Michael? Or Lilith or Alastair or Azazel didn't worry?! Am I the only game piece on the board who doesn't underestimate those denim-wrapped nightmares?!
    – Crowley, 6.20 The Man Who Would Be King

I will miss our old frenemy Crowley when we will head forward to season 13. He was witty, conniving, ruthless and he had quotes to die for. What a long strange trip it has been from season five when we first met him. RIP. "All Along the Watchtower" was Mark Sheppard's 70th appearance as Crowley and, for the time being, the last time we saw Sheppard play him.

    Rowena MacLeod
    Played by Ruth Connell

I hate you, because when I look into your eyes I see the woman I used to be, before magic, before the coven. When I was nothing but Rowena, the tanner's daughter. A pale, scared little girl, who smelled of filth and death. I hate you, because when you were born, your father said he loved me, then he went back to his grand wife and his grand house, whilst I lay pathetic and half dead on a straw mat -- my thighs slick with blood. I hate you, because if I didn't, I'd love you. But love, love is weakness. And I'll never be weak again.
    – Rowena, 11.10 The Devil in the Details

Rowena grew on me over the episodes. I was not fond of the character at the start but she turned out to be as complex as her son. She turned out to be a frenemy also to the boys and well, if her death sticks, I guess I am little dissapointed we didn't get to see the MEGA coven.

Connell played Rowena for 23 episodes that are 10.03 Soul Survivor, 10.07 Girls, Girls, Girls, 10.09 The Things We Left Behind, 10.10 The Hunter Games, 10.14 The Executioner's Song, 10.16 Paint It Black, 10.17 Inside Man, 10.18 Book of the Damned, 10.19 The Werther Project, 10.21 Dark Dynasty, 10.22 The Prisoner, 10.23 Brother's Keeper, 11.03 The Bad Seed, 11.09 O Brother Where Art Thou?, 11.10 The Devil in the Details, 11.18 Hell's Angel, 11.22 We Happy Few, 11.23 Alpha and Omega, 12.02 Mamma Mia, 12.03 The Foundry, 12.08 LOTUS, 12.11 Regarding Dean and 12.13 Family Feud.

    Gavin MacLeod
Played by Adam Groves (6.04) and Theo Devaney (9.21 & 12.13)

The ship went down? Well, that's a good fit with the rest of my life.
    – Gavin MacLeod, 9.21 King of the Damned

Not the best family to be born into. Gavin was a good lad even if he made some bad choices before. Crowley was not the best father material but still he had a son that was honorable and did the right thing in the end. The second Gavin was actually pretty sweet. He was in episodes 6.04 Weekend at Bobby's, 9.21 King of the Damned and 12.13 Family Feud.

    Molitva/Prayer by Marija Šerifović

    Ni oka da sklopim,
    Postelja prazna tera san,
    A ?ivot se topi
    I nestaje brzo, k'o dlanom o dlan.

    K'o razum da gubim,
    Jer stvarnost I ne primećujem,
    Jo? uvek te ljubim,
    Jo? uvek ti slepo verujem.

    K'o luda, ne znam kuda,
    Ljubavi se nove bojim,
    A dane, ?ive rane,
    Vi?e ne brojim.

Molitva, kao ?ar na mojim usnama je,
Molitva, mesto reči samo ime tvoje.
    (I) Nebo zna, kao ja,
    Koliko puta sam ponovila,
To nebo zna, ba? kao ja,
Da je ime tvoje moja jedina

    I can’t close my eyes

    Empty bed chases dream away
    And life melts
And disappears fast, in the twinkling of an eye

    Like I’m losing my mind,
Cause I can’t even notice the real world
I still love you, I still trust you blindly

Like a lunatic, I don’t know where to go
    a new love scares me
    and days, open wounds
    I don’t count anymore

Prayer, like a fire on my lips
prayer, instead of words, your name only
    Heaven knows, like I do
    how many times I’ve repeated
heaven knows, just like I do
that your name is my only

But I can’t lie to God
lie as long as I pray
and I lie if I say
    that I don’t love you

Crowley: Oh, you'll resist, at first. But the humiliation will eat at you. Until, finally, you're worn down by your utter helplessness. And you call me... Master. You brag of your superior power. Well, genius trumps brute force. I've had a dozen of my most loyal studying the cage where you were held at the molecular level. They managed to replicate the material. They made those chains. Getting you here... well, that was a different matter.

Mr. Ketch: This work. It's demanding and must come first. The Men of Letters is my family.
Mary: I'm sorry. Nothing comes before my family, not with me.
Mr. Ketch: Really? Or is that just what you want to believe? You're different when you talk to them. Softer. Weaker. Not an insult, just an observation. But when you hunt, Mary... you're one of the best I've ever seen. Now you might play at being the good mummy, but when you're in the thick of it, nothing but a blade in your hand and blood in the air, that's the real you, the best you. And I think you know it. And I think that scares the hell out of you.

Crowley: So that was all drivel you were spewing about Gavin doing the right thing?
Rowena: It was the right thing. Maybe for Gavin, certainly for me. It allowed me to watch you suffer the loss of a child.
    Crowley: Payback.
Rowena: I'm your mother, dear. Who better to crush your shriveled heart?

"Family Feud" is reference to the game show of the same name.

The teacher's death in the pre-title sequence is reminiscent of Johnny Depp's death in A Nightmare on Elm Street. Watch the scene here.

Like Raphael's first vessel, Donnie Finnerman, Nick would have been rendered in a Persistent Vegetative State from archangel possession, making it impossible for him to verbally consent. While not stated in the episodes, one can assume Raphael and Lucifer gained reentry into their vessels through subconscious means.

  • Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections "First Blood"

"Place me behind prison walls - walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground. There is a possibility that in some way or another I may be able to escape. But stand me on that floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of that circle? No. Never." — Karl G. Maeser

How the Winchesters got into this situation was controversial but it was a juicy idea. I loved 2.19 "Folsom Prison Blues"and thought if "First Blood" was as well executed, we would have a grand old time. As it turned out, it was good but it could have been better. It would have been great if it would have lasted like two episodes.

My chosen word for this fan vid article is, of course, "prison" so I checked up on a few episodes where our boys have been in prison or jail. Also, I might have chosen the weirdest song about prisons as a fan video but it works.

"Karma brings us ever back to rebirth, binds us to the wheel of births and deaths. Good Karma drags us back as relentlessly as bad, and the chain which is wrought out of our virtues holds as firmly and as closely as that forged from our vices." — Annie Besant

I guess I should start this article with the familiar words: "Long time no see!" I am your friendly hiatus writer with the Fan Video articles.

The devil ain't got no power over me. The devil come, and me shake hands with the devil. Devil have his part to play. Devil's a good friend, too... because when you don't know him, that's the time he can mosh you down."— Bob Marley

Loosing oneself is probably the worst that can happen to a person. Forgetting everything and everyone you hold dear. I mean of course it would be great to forget the bad stuff. Who wouldn’t want that? But if the cost was also to forget the good it is really not worth it.

  • Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections "Stuck in the Middle (With You)"

"The unreal is more powerful than the real, because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it, because it's only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. Stone crumbles, wood rots. People, well, they die. But things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on." — Chuck Palahniuk

This was a great episode and I had just the right videos saved for it. Like Sam, Dean and Castiel,  the movies it referenced are legendary. So the chosen word is "legend" mixed with brotherly and family feels. I have wanted to add two videos about the second song for a long time because Jensen sang it at a con. Also, I have a brief introduction to Tarantino's movies that the show referenced.

  • Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections "The Foundry"

"Loneliness is my least favorite thing about life. The thing that I'm most worried about is just being alone without anybody to care for or someone who will care for me." — Anne Hathaway

The first word that came into my mind when the episode was over was "hurt". That even though Mary needed to do this, she hurt her boys.

  • Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections "Who We Are"

"Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you." — George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

The name of the episode, "Who We Are", made me choose identity as the theme for this article. Mary and her boys are the best example of identity and who they are. In this episode, the past came to the forefront.

Have you ever thought that Supernatural could be a series that predicts the future? What ever it is, this episode hit too close to home for some.

  • Far Away Eyes' Deeper Look Supernatural 12.11 "Regarding Dean"

One of my fondest memories has to be the Halloween Blizzard of 1991. Any Minnesotan old enough to remember knows what I'm talking about. I was nine---and determined that I would trick or treat despite the knee-high snow and winds. My friends and I crawled over and through drifts---and one of my friends decided they would be a cheerleader that year, no matter what the weather. It was wild, fun, and something that makes me smile to this day. Other fond memories can be triggered just by a scent. Anything that smells like the Minnesota Renaissance Festival takes me to that beloved place in a heartbeat. It makes me think of the shows I've seen, the shops I've visited, and the atmosphere of the Festival all at once. Other memories aren't so good---times I've seen my parents in the hospital or had to say goodbye to a beloved pet. And yet, each experience makes me me. Each experience puts another page into my own history---shaping who I am now and who I will be in the future.

  • Far Away Eyes' Deeper Look Supernatural 12.01 "Keep Calm and Carry On"

The title “Keep Calm and Carry On” perfectly sums up the season 12 Supernatural premiere. The phrase, a British saying that originated in World War II, points to so much of what happens. The obvious example can be found in the introduction of our newest villains---the British Men of Letters in Lady Toni---but that is only the surface.

  • Far Away Eyes' Deeper Look Supernatural 12.02 "Mamma Mia"

“If you ever wanna talk. I know what it's like to come back and not feel like you really fit,” Sam tells his mother at the end of “Mamma Mia.” In many ways, the statement blankets the entire episode.

  • Far Away Eyes' Deeper Look Supernatural 12.04 "American Nightmare"

“Well, maybe we should focus on the case and less of the Dr. Phil crap,” Dean retorts to Sam at the morgue. And yet, the case itself reflects the real problem the Winchesters have in “American Nightmare”: the inability or unwillingness to talk.

  • Far Away Eyes' Deeper Look Supernatural 12.06 "Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox"

“Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox” is perfectly named. Amidst mourning a death, we see life truly cherished and celebrated. After all, dying is easy. It is living that is hard to do.
