  • Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections "First Blood"

"Place me behind prison walls - walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground. There is a possibility that in some way or another I may be able to escape. But stand me on that floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of that circle? No. Never." — Karl G. Maeser

How the Winchesters got into this situation was controversial but it was a juicy idea. I loved 2.19 "Folsom Prison Blues"and thought if "First Blood" was as well executed, we would have a grand old time. As it turned out, it was good but it could have been better. It would have been great if it would have lasted like two episodes.

My chosen word for this fan vid article is, of course, "prison" so I checked up on a few episodes where our boys have been in prison or jail. Also, I might have chosen the weirdest song about prisons as a fan video but it works.

  • It's a Supernatural Life - Part 4

Are you ready for part four of the Christmas story? If you missed the opening chapters of this year's Christmas in the bunker with the Winchesters, you'll want to go back to read Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 before continuing. After this we have still one part to go.

The original idea for this story was to make it ready before Christmas day but unfortunately that didn't come to pass. Sometimes I plan too many things to do and I realize that there is only so much you can do in a day. I didn't have a holiday (vacation time) to finish it but so much was already done. I decided just to relax, keep the idea for the story in mind and slowly let it reveal itself. That was good as I could fully focus on it and write all that was needed. So finally we have arrived at the part that is my favorite.

  • Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections "Who We Are"

"Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you." — George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

The name of the episode, "Who We Are", made me choose identity as the theme for this article. Mary and her boys are the best example of identity and who they are. In this episode, the past came to the forefront.

  • Top 10 Supernatural Opening Sequences: TV Show Overlay Videos - Part 2

"The world of reality has its limits; the world of imagination is boundless." ― Jean-Jacques Rousseau

This article is an idea I got while writing "The Fan Video of the Week article" for "The Vessel". For that episode, I featured two videos where Supernatural was combined with trailers for full-length movies and their music. While searching for those videos, I found many videos in which the show Supernatural and its characters were introduced using the music and style of other popular TV shows, mimicing their opening sequence. This type of editing is really popular. The introductions are a real art form themselves.

  • You're No Angel: The Downfall of Heaven

I'll confess, my idea to update my angel meta by looking at what we learned about angels and how the show used them in seasons eight, nine, ten, and eleven turned out to be much harder than I expected. That wasn't because of any depth or complexity in what the show presented. On the contrary: I submit it's because – at least for me – the more we saw of angels, the less unique and interesting they became: they turned depressingly, humanly predictable and boring as simplistic sociopathic monsters, and died quickly if they developed empathy or emotional intelligence.
  • Auld Lang Syne: Elle's Favorite Reflections on Supernatural

In 2009 when I first wrote this short piece, I was a newer member of the WFB writing family and my life was in a very different place. At the time, Supernatural was constantly amazing me with not only the forethought going into the storylines but the longevity of the continuity and the care put into these details; particularly compared to many other television shows.

I chose this piece as part of the Auld Lang Syne reflection series because here we are, so many years later and the show itself has undergone many changes and is many storylines away from where things where back in November 2009 - but it still continues to impress me.
  • Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections "Merry Christmas!"

Choosing this episode and fan video was a no brainer for me this week. First, I love the episode 3.08 A Very Supernatural Christmas a lot. Second, the video is great! Jensen Ackles singing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" as background to seeing their friends and family that have passed catches the holiday spirit well.

  • Updated Supernatural Holiday Gift Guide

So, Christmas time is here and I know what you're thinking: What in the world can I get the ghost of my great grandmother, vampire neighbor, or the DarknessTM to unwrap on that magical morning? Maybe you celebrate Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa or have another holiday tradition that involves exchanging gifts with the little monsters known as friends, family and neighbors?

Well fear not!  I'm here to...

Children being monsters literally freaks me out. They are creepy. I can handle almost anything else but monster children is not one of them, and Supernatural has had some really creepy and memorable child monsters! In part 1 of this series, I listed the Top 10 creepiest child monsters of Supernatural's first 10 seasons. There have been so many more creepy children, though! A top 10 list just wasn't enough! So here is my list of Honorable Mentions for creepiest, scariest, most memorable child monsters!

  • Let's Discuss Supernatural "The Executioner's Song" & Fan Video of the Week

Editor's Note: In this week's Fan Video article, LK goes far beyond finding videos that interpret an episode's theme. She has done extensive biblical research and shares with us her insights on the Mark of Cain's plot line. She also tackles the confusing canon issues on whether the Mark was shared or given to Dean, the lock and key idea, Lucifer's role in the Mark and much more. Given that, I've made this a Let's Discuss article, so you can freely discuss your questions, confusion and theories. I also highly recommend the thirdvideo that is linked at the very end of the article. LK was too modest to showcase it, but it is her own creation about the MoC...and it is outstanding.   - Nightsky

aka Cain and Abel, story about two brothers, foreshadowing and the MOC

"8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.”While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?”
“I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
10 The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground."

  • Top 10 Creepy Kids of Supernatural - Part 1

This idea has been brewing a while. Actually, I first thought of it when I made the tribute to the Bad-ass women of Supernatural. I talked to some of my friends about child actors on the show and especially the ones that were monsters. I can tell you this: children being monsters literally freaks me out. They are creepy. I can handle almost anything else but monster children is not one of them.

  • Mary's Musings: Missing Supernatural's Magic

Eric Kripke's initial conceit for Supernatural was the premise that all our human myths and urban legends had a core of truth: that magic and the supernatural were all around us, just a few degrees off normal. He gave us rough-edged, blue-collar heroes who fought to save people they didn't know, all because they knew things normal people would never have believed. And there was always the sense that the Winchesters and their world could be just around the corner, if you only cut that turn a little short.

    I miss that.

  • Mary's Musings: Paying My Debts

Way back in season one, I fell in love with Supernatural. It didn't happen at the very beginning. Oh, I watched and enjoyed the pilot – I'd respected Jensen Ackles since the Pollo Loco episode of Dark Angel, so I knew I'd check this out – but I didn't realize the complexity and depth of what I was seeing until Faith aired. Ever since then, I was committed.

In the years since, I've done a lot of commentary on Supernatural. I was very regular for a long time – basically seasons two through six, and then again in season eight. But I've been dilatory since then, and I won't be continuing with any regularity. For that, I apologize.
  • Fan Video of the Week: Supernatural Reflections "Tribute for 10 Years"

I have started my traditional Supernatural re-watch which I also did a year ago. I have ten years to go in episodes that have made me laugh and cry, seeing the brothers grow. I have felt their loss when people in their lives died and joy when they have had those small moments of happiness in their lives.
  • Fan Video of the Week: Reflections on Supernatural "Angel Heart"

For this weeks video, I chose to go about it from a different angle. Inspired by The WFB article that focused on how demons have changedduring the run of the show, I decided to focus on angels as it fits the episode, the fan video I wanted to highlight and the new monster that was added to Supernatural mythology.
