  • Living in the Moment: Experiencing the Spectacular Supernatural #SDCC17 Panel

This was my first year covering San Diego Comic-Con solo. It was only the second time I had ever been to #SDCC (a hashtag my hands have become accustomed to typing just as much as they type #Supernatural). Alice had a schedule conflict this year so I was left to navigate tickets and passes, emails and contacts, technology and geography on my own. To say I was nervous all the time wouldn’t come close to describing my perpetual state of mind for the weeks preceding and the entire week of Comic-Con.

This year was also the first time I would have the opportunity to attend a Supernatural Comic-Con panel. I’ve read about them, watched them on YouTube and written news items covering them for several years but I've never seen one in person. Last year I came close to attending one but instead was tortured by having to stand outside as long-time friends and fans I had just met filed inside Hall H (being on a press room schedule doesn’t allow one to stand in line for hours to secure a place at the coveted panel). This year, though, was different.

It's official, Supernatural is coming to Comic Con this year.
  • The Magicians: The Supernatural Connection and Season 2 Spoilers

Since leaving Supernatural at the end of season 7, showrunner Sera Gamble has been working her magic on a new fantasy thriller series, The Magicians. After a tantalizing 13 episode debut, The Magicians will begin its second season on Jan 25 on the Syfy network.

If you haven’t yet seen The Magicians, it’s a cross between Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia with more sex and relationship drama to spice it up a bit! The plots are complex and mysterious, and there is a good balance between strong male and female characters. The description of the show from The Syfy Channel website teases:

Based upon Lev Grossman's best-selling books, The Magicians centers around Brakebills University, a secret institution specializing in magic. There, amidst an unorthodox education of spellcasting, a group of twenty-something friends soon discover that a magical fantasy world they read about as children is all too real— and poses grave danger to humanity –

Following in Supernatural's footsteps, The Magicians is also filmed in Vancouver, Canada! Another member of the Supernatural family, Rick Worthy (the alpha vampire from seasons 6 and 7) plays a key role as the Dean of the higher education magic school.

I caught up Sera (who immediately recognized The WFB from her Supernatural days!) and the rest of the show’s talented, enthusiastic cast at San Diego Comic Con in July, 2016. They shared insights about their roles, behind-the-scenes stories of filming a magical adventure, and teasers of what’s in store for fans in season 2! Beware: SPOILERS! I'm saving the showrunners' and book author's interview for last. They share the most spoilers about the plots of season 2!

  • Auld Lang Syne: Alice's Favorite Reflections on Supernatural

So, I came up with this so called “great idea” and approached Nightsky right away.  Let’s have each writer pick one of their “greatest hits” to share during the holidays.  You know, a gift to those that have long forgot the articles gone by.  Yeah, great idea, until I had to come up with my article.  What was I thinking for myself?

There are many fans out there who don’t know the history of this site.  I found Supernatural a week before the season three premiere, and started blogging about it during the infamous season three writer’s strike.  Turns out there weren’t a lot of Supernatural bloggers back then.  By the time I started this website, somewhere in the late summer of 2008, there was an actual demand for Supernatural material.  Our beginnings were humble, mostly the rantings of this opinionated redhead until Elle2 joined me in the early part of 2009.  But fans loved it and we were very popular before we knew it.

My dilemma, though, is since 2008 I have posted over 1600 articles on this site.  How do I choose five, let alone one?  I chose to focus on the early material, the stuff long forgotten or unknown for most.  Here’s a list of four works that I’m particularly proud of, and my one selection to re-publish.
  • Ben Edlund Interview - Supernatural at Comic-Con 2012, Press Room

It’s impossible to transcribe a Ben Edlund interview.  Just watching him alone is pure entertainment.  I’ll include some of the highlights, but it isn’t even close to capturing the true value of this interview.  I suggest if you are at work, just set a reminder on your smart phone to watch the below video later.
  • The Supernatural Panel at Comic Con 2011 - The Full Rundown

The "Supernatural" panel.  That yearly monumental event at San Diego Comic Con in which the past season is remembered, and after a long hiatus it's usually the first hint of what's coming in this new season.  We got hints alright.  Everyone chose to be careful  this year, especially about the opener.

I'll just do this now.  If you want to read through this, please keep in mind, SPOILER ALERT!!  Honest it's nothing major, but there's still enough teasers to get the imaginations flowing.
