  • Threads: Supernatural 13.02 "The Rising Son"

    Four Days Later

Following on the heels of a fabulous season 13 premiere episode, “The Rising Son” was a tense, suspenseful, thoughtful second chapter in the story of Jack, the misunderstood all-powerful-being child. Once again, Alexander Calvert’s nuanced portrayal of the most powerful creature on earth housed inside a naïve, well-intentioned 3 day, 17 hours and 42 minute old teenager gave the character an emotional depth that was engaging and edgy. Throughout the episode, I held my breath along with Sam and Dean to see if Jack's father’s or mother’s genes would rule his actions at any given moment.

12 Years of Big Boss Battles: SupernaturalVillainy for the Ages

“I'm glad, honestly. I'm not saying we bury the thing, I'm saying we just save it for when we really need it. Crowley, Metatron -- the big boss fights.” – Sam, 9.22 Stairway to Heaven

After twelve seasons of Supernatural- including one heck of an intense ending to our most recent finale, Supernaturalhas had it’s fair share of villains and monsters. Afterall, it is a show about fighting the creatures that go bump in the nights. That said, just how many of those creatures have resulted in, as Sam says, the “big boss” battle?

  • In Defense of Supernatural Season 12, Part Two

Part 1 of "Defense of Supernatural Season 12" makes the case that the return of Sam and Dean's loving relationship and the harmonious blending of the season's arcs added up to one of the best years in the Supernatural series.  In Part 2, Samandean addresses the other major characters and storylines, and how they contributed, or detracted, from season 12's enjoyment.
  • It's a Supernatural Life - Part 4

Are you ready for part three of the Christmas story? If you missed the opening chapters of this year's Christmas in the bunker with the Winchesters, you'll want to go back to read Part 1Part 2 and Part 3 before continuing. After this we have still one part to go.

The original idea for this story was to make it ready before Christmas day but unfortunately that didn't come to pass. Sometimes I plan too many things to do and I realize that there is only so much you can do in a day. I didn't have a holiday (vacation time) to finish it but so much was already done. I decided just to relax, keep the idea for the story in mind and slowly let it reveal itself. That was good as I could fully focus on it and write all that was needed. So finally we have arrived at the part that is my favorite.

  • Mallena’s Supernatural Musings: 7.17 “The Born-Again Identity”

Hi, everyone.  The nice people here at The WFB decided to let me write a series of episode reviews, for your enjoyment (let’s hope that it’s not a horrible mistake). I’m going to pick any episode from any season that was interesting to me in some way, then talk about other shows and books that touch upon the theme of the episode.

I felt obliged to start with my favorite episode of Supernatural's season seven, "The Born Again Identity".  I am the president, secretary, and treasurer of the Truly Unofficial Season Seven Fan Club.  I also bring the snacks to the meetings. We’re always looking for members - just let me know.

    The Morning After

I am overwhelmed. Emotionally drained and intellectually stunned. THAT is the Supernatural we all know and love.

The morning after watching the Supernatural season 12 two episode finale, 12.22 “Who We Are” and 12.23 “All Along the Watchtower”, my heart is aching with joy. Truly overflowing with happiness. I’m guessing those are not the emotions you would expect after we all watched nearly every supporting character we love die. To be fair, I am still in shock and I expect waves of different emotions to hit me over the next several days but our immediate reaction to an episode is a valuable and often the most revealing measurement of its impact.

  • Thoughts on Supernatural 12.21: "There’s Something About Mary"

While not at all what I expected from where we left off last week,There’s Something About Marywas, simply put, too short an episode that left me anxious and salivating for both karmic twists and conclusions. Typically by this point of the season there are so many things aligning and pieces being revealed to the viewer that – by and large – Sam and Dean and other major players aren’t quite fully privy to yet; it is usually my favourite part of the grand (or mega, for those who prefer) plot. The unfolding 12.21 is no exception, and the game is merely getting started.

  • Top 10 Clues to Supernatural Season 13 and Beyond

As the Supernatural fandom eagerly awaits (and simultaneously dreads) the final chapters in season 12’s story, we have a one week break to consider what heartbreak might be in store for our heroes this year. A recent Supernatural convention participant reported that Jensen said this finale will be the hardest he and Jared have ever had to film. I don’t know about you, but my heart gets tied up in knots just thinking what that could mean!

  • Thoughts on Supernatural 12.15: "Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell"

Okay, this is another one of those pieces with a little of this and little of that and the result is a pretty okay episode. The important part of this episode was not so much the meat and bones it offered in and of itself, but rather the groundwork it laid out for the back third of the season, which all told was fairly intriguing.

  • Supernatural Season 11 - Hits and Misses: Part One

Season 11 was a year loaded with faces old and new; big villains, friends who became enemies, enemies who became friends and complicated journeys-some ending and some beginning. So what worked, what didn't and what fell somewhere in between?

  • Threads! Supernatural 12.15 "Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell"

    The Morning After

I thoroughly enjoyed “Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell”. Happily, I was totally engrossed in the Sam and Dean portion of the story. The hellhound special effects, the mystery surrounding the hound’s target, then the intended victim’s claim to not have sold her soul all kept me intrigued. Dean and Crowley’s conversations and the Impala talks between Sam and Gwen were also layered with implications for their characters and the show so I was emotionally and intellectually engaged.

  • Threads: Supernatural 12.13 "Family Feud"

     The Morning After

I am intrigued by “Family Feud”. A lot happened, maybe too much too quickly, but while there’s a lot to say about ship wrecks, true love, bringing Gavin back only to kill him, the commonplace use of time travel, and yet another human trusting a demon who spins a great story, I find myself pondering the characters. These family reunions were deeply complex with competing motivations and mistrust all around. Let’s take a look!

  • Memorable Moments: Supernatural 12.07 "Rock Never Dies"

Welcome back to the "Memorable Moments" review series! Once again I have put together a list of what I felt were the best and most memorable moments from a Supernatural episode. The list varies from episode to episode depending on what has transpired. This week's review highlights 12.07 "Rock Never Dies".   I hope you enjoy it and share what your picks would be.

  • Threads: Supernatural 12.08 "LOTUS" and Mid-Season Recap

The Supernatural season 12 mid-year hiatus is nearly over! If you’ve loyally stayed with The WFB the past six weeks, we’ve rewatched the first eight episodes of the season and posted new articles every day on each story, including their most "Memorable Moments", "Fan Video Reflections", and even "Rewatch Refreshment Recipes" inspired by each show (you can catch up on anything you missed by visiting the Article Page link in the header).

Rewatching the entire first half of the season also enabled us to gain a new perspective on what the writers have shown us so far. At this point, before we see the next chapters in the Winchester saga, it might be interesting to analyze our Threads list to determine if we can draw any conclusions about foreshadowing and outcomes, probable direction or priority of myth arcs. Was 12.08 “LOTUS” the mid-season finale we predicted, or hoped for?
