  • Bardicvoice's Friday Report - Salute to Supernatural Vancouver 2015

Another Vancon has arrived!  Bardicvoice is back for another year of fun and festivities.  Lucky for us, as she has done so well at prior conventions, she has the blow by blow details via her awesome tweets!
  • Bardicvoice's Saturday Report: Salute to Supernatural Vancouver 2015

Saturday at Vancon.  Just like any other con, this is the day where serious s*** happens.  Mark Sheppard is in the house as well as a number of other illustrious guests, and then it all closes with the always interesting grossly amusing Misha Collins.

  • Bardicvoice's Sunday Report: Salute to Supernatural Vancouver 2015

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!  We all know what that means in the Supernatural convention world.  J2 day!  Yes, Jared and Jensen arrive and take the convention by storm, melting fan girl (and boys too) hearts everywhere.

Bardicvoice was there to see it all and she continues day three of tweeting all the action as it happened.  Below are those tweets of not just the Jared and Jensen panel, but Ruth Connell's as well (this time with a little help from her "feathers" pal Misha Collins).  Also, as a bonus, we have the tweets from Lynn at @FangasmSPN for the Gold members panel, which took place early in the morning.
  • Destination: Brigadoon – Memories from the Supernatural Chicago Convention 2015

Do you know the story of “Brigadoon”? It is one of my favorite movies of all time.  It’s a love story that takes place in a mysterious Scottish village that only materializes one day every hundred years. It’s a magical place, sheltered from the realities of the outside world. The villagers are very close to each other, united by the secret that only they know. They are all under a spell, living in their perfect world that no one else can see, awakening for one day, then disappearing into the mist until it is time once again for their world to be reunited with their beloved Highlands. The story is set to music, with one of the most memorable songs being “It’s Almost Like Being In Love”.

Entering the magical world of a Supernatural convention is a lot like the supernatural world of Brigadoon.

  • Listening In: Fans' Supernatural #MinnCon Memories

Supernatural conventions are emotional, exuberant experiences. Every fan who attends leaves with their own unique memories. Each impression of the convention is a combination of factors, such as whether the attendee is a rookie or veteran, is meeting friends or attending solo (Farawayeyes discussed this aspect of conventions in her recent MinnCon reflection), and on the specific roster of actors appearing at that con. All of the panels are phenomenal, but sometimes fans are lucky enough to see their favorite actor in person (beside, of course, Jared, Jensen, Misha and Mark who attend all North American cons).

One of my colleagues, @waywrdaughter67, recently attended the convention in Minnesota (#MinnCon to social media users). She shared with me the unfiltered convention recollections from her group of friends. All of these fans are either administrators or members of the Supernatural Fan Wiki  community. With their permission, I am sharing their personal reactions with you, to help bring those of you who cannot attend a con one step closer to its magic. I've also added some wonderful pictures taken by @PigNaPoke69 to help you visualize what these fans saw (Please respect her art and not copy, download or use her pictures without credit and permission).

The following is an exact copy of their conversation. Remember, their reactions are uncensored so they just may be able to share details or opinions that staff writers would forego.  So let's all be very quiet and listen in to close friends exchanging their impressions of MinnCon!
  • Recap: "Mystery Spot"

It's no secret that my favorite episode of all time is "Mystery Spot". It was one of the very first reviews I ever wrote for blogcritics, and after going through it for reposting here, I found that review wasn't very good. This episode is so good, so spectacular in its detail, that it deserved its own full recap. This is by far my longest recap ever, and there are tons of pictures in it, so it isn't dialup friendly. Enjoy!

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

The best episode of the series. There, I said it. Every single element that goes into making an episode clicked into high gear in this one and through an extremely fast paced and very unpredictable story everyone delivered big time. I'll make my argument, even though many have already told me I'm nuts.

Not only was "Mystery Spot" the best episode of the series, but it's one of the best written episodes for any TV show out there. Since my other favorite episode of season three is A Very Supernatural Christmas, Jeremy Carver owns me. In both scripts, this new staff writer offered stories with a dark humor edge, creative and intriguing plots, sharp and humorous dialogue that greatly energized the already incredible chemistry between the main characters, yet also managed to impress with deeply emotional and sentimental moments. That's a really fancy worded way of saying he rocks.

For this episode in particular, combine the flawless script with the brilliant directing of Kim Manners, some of the best set decoration and special effects of the series, and the usual top notch acting and we have an episode to be listed among the best. Jared especially took his performance to outstanding new heights, delivering his best episode to date by nailing Sam's long ordeal with incredible range and versatility. Of course the script demanded it, but he rose to the challenge brilliantly.

Sure, it was a Sam focused episode, but considering Sam's character has lacked deep exploration for two and a half seasons, this was both a welcome but very frightening glimpse into how dark he can become when pushed. Uncorked Dean last season was scary, but Sam in sociopathic killer mode was downright terrifying.

Any time a television show goes out of its way to do revealing character studies, I'll be the first to sing its praises.? Without character development, without seeing these people evolve either positively or negatively in the stressful circumstances set upon them, we all end up with TheBrady Bunch every week (yes, I'd love to see Dean Winchester nail Marcia Brady).

  • Review - "Mystery Spot"

    "Mystery Spot"

    --Robin's Rambles by Robin Vogel

Sam sits up in bed, awakened to "Heat of the Moment" on the radio. "Rise and shine, Sammy!" says Dean enthusiastically, tying his boots on his bed. "Dude, Asia?" asks Sam. "C'mon, you love this song and you know it!" says Dean cheerily. "And if I ever hear it again, I'm going to kill myself," says Sam grumpily. "What did you say, I can't hear you!" says Dean, deliberately turning up the music. Sam smiles indulgently as Dean points a finger at him and begins bopping his head and lip-syncing to the song, In the bathroom, the brothers brush their teeth; Sam, spreading odd-tasting toothpaste on a pink brush while Dean noisily gargles, grinning at him. Ready to go, Sam stands impatiently in the doorway, wondering when Dean will finish. Dean picks up a black bra. "This yours?" he asks, before finding the gun he was looking for. "Bingo," he says, "now, who's ready for breakfast?"
