Family Don't End With Blood

Featuring a chapter from Nightsky!
  • #SPNMinnCon In Retrospect: The Supernatural Family Reunion

The question “How many of you are at your first con” is regularly asked by much of the cast. Sometimes many hands shoot up---but at others not many. The question then becomes---largely unspoken---why do you keep going to theseSupernatural conventions? Once you've gotten your autographs and photo ops and seen the panels, why do it again (and possibly multiple times in a convention season no less)?

I find myself asking that question after this year's Minneapolis convention---and the answer is a positive one.
  • Alice's Review: Supernatural 11.20 - "Don't Call Me Shurley" aka When Metaphysics and Psychology Collide

Eric Kripke and Robbie Thompson get together in a bar and…tell me if you’ve heard this one before.

Oh my, my, “Don’t Call Me Shurley” really went in a ballsy direction, didn’t it?  I’m personally stunned.  No doubt this is a polarizing episode because it basically listened to six years of non-stop fan complaints and decided to do something about it.  While that might thrill some, it also upsets others.  No matter what side you fall, one cannot discount what this episode brings to the table.
  • Bardicvoice's Friday Report - Salute to Supernatural Vancouver 2015

Another Vancon has arrived!  Bardicvoice is back for another year of fun and festivities.  Lucky for us, as she has done so well at prior conventions, she has the blow by blow details via her awesome tweets!
  • Bardicvoice's Saturday Report: Salute to Supernatural Vancouver 2015

Saturday at Vancon.  Just like any other con, this is the day where serious s*** happens.  Mark Sheppard is in the house as well as a number of other illustrious guests, and then it all closes with the always interesting grossly amusing Misha Collins.

  • Cast and Crew Respond to Supernatural Episode 11.20

The cast and crew are sending their accolades about last night's episode.
  • Destination: Brigadoon – Memories from the Supernatural Chicago Convention 2015

Do you know the story of “Brigadoon”? It is one of my favorite movies of all time.  It’s a love story that takes place in a mysterious Scottish village that only materializes one day every hundred years. It’s a magical place, sheltered from the realities of the outside world. The villagers are very close to each other, united by the secret that only they know. They are all under a spell, living in their perfect world that no one else can see, awakening for one day, then disappearing into the mist until it is time once again for their world to be reunited with their beloved Highlands. The story is set to music, with one of the most memorable songs being “It’s Almost Like Being In Love”.

Entering the magical world of a Supernatural convention is a lot like the supernatural world of Brigadoon.

  • Elle's Review - "The End"

Thanks so much elle for submitting another great review.  She's one up on me, since I've been going through family induced writer's block for three days.  Enjoy!

    Thoughts on the "The End"
    The Recap
How nice was it to see John? I had to smile just at hearing his voice - glad to have him present in an episode, whatever the form. So far, we've had two episodes of four that have reached all the way back to season one for THEN - and as we've now had Meg, Jess and the Colt, it will be interesting to see how much more of the shows foundation bleeds through into this season and if other old friends (and foes) make a return appearance.
  • Elle's Thoughts - "The Real Ghostbusters"

Elle does apologize for the lateness, but still she has some great things to say about last week's episode, "The Real Ghostbusters."

Also, I finally got my review to Blogcritics too.  This one is completely different.  It really ends up be a little analysis about the episode in relation to my visit to the Chicago Con this weekend.  I figured that all the cutesy lines and funny stuff can be covered by the recap (whenever that happens).

So, let's take one more look for once tomorrow night comes, this episode will be clearly in our "rear view mirrors."

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Thoughts on"The Real Ghostbusters"

Okay, this is going to be short and sweet but I hope you won't hold it against me as I have a feeling this week will be larger-than-life. [Sadly, I will not be able to watch it live (*sniffle*) as I will actually be in class this week. Unless we get a freak snow storm. It could happen. Really.]
So, since this was one of those episodes that people have mixed feelings on, I am going to only touch on what worked about this episode and leave out any of the holes. I'm going to do a bit of different format, but as I made my notes watching the episode, they are fairly organic reactions to the episode ups.

Family Don’t End with Blood: How Supernatural Has Changed Lives

Edited by Lynn Zubernis, Released May 9, 2017

When one thinks of Supernatural or the SPN Family that has formed around it, many thoughts can come to mind. No matter your thoughts or opinions on various seasons, characters, story-lines, or more, it is the fandom community that has really and truly made this show special. The television series may be the common bond that drew every fan or cast member providing a story in this book together, but it is the bonds of humanity that really keep them together for life. Supernatural, as a television series, has changed lives. It has provided inspiration, escapism, and good storytelling that allows us to face our own inner demons. It has given us a chance to see the world differently, awakening passions in us that we may not have realized we possessed.

What we find in Family Don't End With Blood is the essence of the show and the fandom that surrounds it distilled to its very best. It gives us a real glimpse and a real understanding as to why so many fans have lasted with the series for well over a decade. It explores the beautiful relationships that the cast has built first as fellow cast members and through the convention circuit that has formed around the series. We have stories of triumph and defeat, hope and despair, joy and sorrow, and everything in between. We have people at their highest and their lowest---sometimes all within the same essay. Many of the essays discuss the reasons why the show drew them in and kept them there---and why the fandom that they found is the real reason they stayed. It's a snapshot of what the power of our combined goodness and humanity can really bring to the world---a hopeful glimpse of what the world could really be if we simply got out of our own way and accepted one another who we really are---warts and all.

  • Listening In: Fans' Supernatural #MinnCon Memories

Supernatural conventions are emotional, exuberant experiences. Every fan who attends leaves with their own unique memories. Each impression of the convention is a combination of factors, such as whether the attendee is a rookie or veteran, is meeting friends or attending solo (Farawayeyes discussed this aspect of conventions in her recent MinnCon reflection), and on the specific roster of actors appearing at that con. All of the panels are phenomenal, but sometimes fans are lucky enough to see their favorite actor in person (beside, of course, Jared, Jensen, Misha and Mark who attend all North American cons).

One of my colleagues, @waywrdaughter67, recently attended the convention in Minnesota (#MinnCon to social media users). She shared with me the unfiltered convention recollections from her group of friends. All of these fans are either administrators or members of the Supernatural Fan Wiki  community. With their permission, I am sharing their personal reactions with you, to help bring those of you who cannot attend a con one step closer to its magic. I've also added some wonderful pictures taken by @PigNaPoke69 to help you visualize what these fans saw (Please respect her art and not copy, download or use her pictures without credit and permission).

The following is an exact copy of their conversation. Remember, their reactions are uncensored so they just may be able to share details or opinions that staff writers would forego.  So let's all be very quiet and listen in to close friends exchanging their impressions of MinnCon!

  • Supernatural 11X23, "Alpha and Omega" - The Live Tweets

One things for certain on a Wednesday night, especially such a big episode like the season finale.  There are always a set of actors online having a blast during a live tweet on the episode, whether it be on East Coast or West Coast.  Heck, Jared even joined in for the Central time zone!  Thanks to Storify, we are able to share all those in one grouping!

Below are the tweets from last night's broadcast from Jared Padalecki, Rob Benedict, Emily Swallow, Ruthie Connell, Lisa Berry, Samantha Smith, Jim Michaels, and Brianna Buckmaster.  For those that haven't seen the episode, SPOILER ALERT!
