  • Crowley, King Of Hearts: A Final Farewell

“Even when I lose, I win!” Beautiful and empowering words written by Mark Sheppard regarding Crowley and his final accomplishments in the show. As painful as this is to write, I assure you, it is even more painful to accept - but when has that ever stopped any of us? After all, Hell hath no fury like a fangirl scorned! The departure we were given in the finale left us gutted, angry, and confused. How do you say goodbye to someone who mastered saying “hello boys” so perfectly? I feel like no matter how hard I try to put my thoughts and emotions into words, nothing I write is good enough. To the characters on the show, Crowley was someone who was thought of only when needed most. But for me, he is someone who will absolutely never be forgotten.

  • The Found Footage Report: Chicago Supernatural Convention 2016

Each year the Supernatural fandom eagerly awaits the Gag Reel, which captures for all time the antics and bloopers that occurred during the prior season’s filming. Its unedited moments tell the story of what really happens on set. This abbreviated reality show is quite different from the perfected version of the episode an audience sees after multiple takes, precise editing and music and sound track additions deliver the storywriter’s and director’s desired visions.

Convention reports create a similar illusion of perfection. The stunning pictures that have emerged from Supernatural conventions in the past few years have become an art form unto themselves. In the hands of truly talented photographers, the combination of lighting, makeup and superb camera lenses capture images of subjects whose beauty could qualify them to be Greek gods and goddesses, resulted in breathtaking portrayals of the con’s stage shows.

Similar to the edited footage of filming, the best convention pictures that are shared on websites and social media are culled from literally thousands of shots. These final images are cropped and filtered until maybe a dozen masterpieces emerge. As I was sorting through my reel of pictures from the Chicago 2016 Supernatural convention hoping to find a few of these perfect moments , I began to wonder: In addition to the sanitized, edited version of the convention, what if I shared the pre-edited, raw footage - the behind-the-scenes reality of photographing conventions?

  • #SPNMinnCon In Retrospect: The Supernatural Family Reunion

The question “How many of you are at your first con” is regularly asked by much of the cast. Sometimes many hands shoot up---but at others not many. The question then becomes---largely unspoken---why do you keep going to theseSupernatural conventions? Once you've gotten your autographs and photo ops and seen the panels, why do it again (and possibly multiple times in a convention season no less)?

I find myself asking that question after this year's Minneapolis convention---and the answer is a positive one.

  • A Casual Chat with Mark Sheppard - Comic Con 2016

Everyone sort of cringes when Mark Sheppard shows up in the press room.  He doesn't give spoilers, he doesn't particularly care for the press, if you ask him traditional questions about the season to come or the season past he gives short uninformative answers, sometimes downright rude.  Some of my worst interviews have come from Mark.  HOWEVER, this is not one of these interviews.  He was in a good mood and we had a fun 6 min and 40 sec conversation with him.
