  • “Get a Room!” Supernatural Season 11 Motel Rooms - Part 1

Browsing the SupernaturalWiki site, I noticed that the motel room descriptions stopped after Season Eight.
In an attempt to fill the void and to pay tribute to the Set designers and Location team, I offer this series of articles on the motel sets of seasons 9-11!

  • Continuity Bridges in Supernatural Season 11: "Out of the Darkness..." 11.01

Supernatural's season 11 finale was titled "Alpha and Omega", loosely translated as the beginning and the end, or the first and the last. There are many possible applications of that title for the seaon's mythological arc, starting with God and his sister as the beginning of creation and the possible end of creation. One could also interpret it to refer to the beginning of their new understanding and time together as a reunited family, ending their alientation and Amara's hatred. What if the title had another, underlying, meaning, though?

As this year's hiatus begins, The CW has begun rerunning the season. Last week, they ran the first episode "Out of the Darkness Into the Fire" so I had a chance to watch how Amara's story began to intertwine with the Winchesters, Crowley, Castiel and the humans of God's creation. During my rewatch, I was amazed that the first and the last episodes of the season were strongly tied together not just in themes but visually as well. Some of the scenes were nearly identical, while others clearly foreshadowed things to come. Similar to the well known tactic of sound bridging, in which "the sound from one scene is carried into the adjoining scene (For example: A boy sits in a park, watching his dog play in the autumn leaves, and the sound heard is that of a doorbell ringing. The front door is visible in the next scene"), the visual cinematography bridges presented in 11.01 irrefutably bridged the beginning and the ending of the season.

  • Memorable Moments: Supernatural 11.19 - "The Chitters"

Editor's Note: Each week Karen visually recapped what she felt were the best and most memorable moments of the new Supernatural episode. The list varied from week to week, depending on what transpired in the episode. Towards the end of the season, we skipped a few episodes, though, usually for scheduling reasons. "The Chitters" was the first show we skipped, so we've never had the chance to share this visual review with you. Since I've noticed that "The Chitters" seems to be consistently holding a place of infamy in your "Rank the Episodes" lists, (i.e. it's consistenly LAST so far), I felt pity for this misunderstood, underappreciated (*cough*) show. Maybe Karen found a few gems within the hour that will soften your hearts? It's worth a try! See if it works...

  • Memorable Moments: Supernatural 11.20 - "Don't Call Me Shurley"

Editor's Note: Each week Karen visually recapped what she felt were the best and most memorable moments of the new Supernatural episode. The list varied from week to week, depending on what transpired in the episode. Towards the end of the season, we skipped a few episodes, though, usually for scheduling reasons. "Don't Call Me Shurley" was one of the episodes we had to skip, so we've never had the chance to share this visual review with you. As some consider it Robbie Thompson's finest work, it is appropriate that we present this to you now, during The WFB's Robbie Thompson Week! Enjoy!

Karen's Note: This was one of those episodes where I found it extremely difficult to keep my most memorable moments down to a reasonable minimum. From start to finish, this episode was not only the best of everything, it was also so intertwined.
  • Memorable Moments: Supernatural 11.21 - "All In The Family"

    Supernatural “Black”

    Season 10, Episode 1

    Airdate:  October 7, 2014

    Written by Jeremy Carver

    Directed by Robert Singer

    Theme

“For nought so vile that on the earth doth live
But to the earth some special good doth give,
Nor aught so good but strain'd from that fair use
Revolts from true birth, stumbling on abuse:
    Virtue itself turns vice, being misapplied;
And vice sometimes by action dignified.”
(Romeo and Juliet Act 2 Scene 3)

Shakespeare noted that no one is entirely good, nor entirely evil and sometimes to do good, one must do evil; when doing evil, sometimes good may come of it. That is where we are in this Season 10 opener. Sam, Castiel, and a new character Cole (Travis Aaron Wade), are good trying to do good but performing terrible vile deeds. Dean transitions to a vile demon but is there any good left? A line has been crossed. There is no grey area here. We are in the black.
