What's Your Scene? #12
Ok, I pulled out four more episode titles and have put my thoughts on each. What are your thoughts on the following episodes? Is it a scene, a moment, a line or song? And why? It is your favourite or is it the emotional impact it has on you? Maybe it simply makes you laugh or hide under the covers.
Something Wicked: With this one, I have a few moments that stand out for me. One is when Dean goes into the Motel Office to book a room and meets Michael, the owner's oldest son. The conversation between the two was great, along with the flashback.
Michael: King or two queens?
Dean: Two queens.
Michael looks over Dean and sees Sam. “hmm, yeah, I bet”
Dean: What’d you say?
Michael: Nice car.
Michael’s mother then comes in and asked him to get dinner for his brother. While watching Michael pouring milk for his brother, we see Dean flashback to fixing dinner for Sam. I loved that flashback, learning a little bit more about what their lives were like as children.
Another is when Michael decides to help the brothers put a stop to the Striga. Even though he was scared, he was willing to do what it took to save his little brother.
Michael: If you kill it, will Asher get better?
Dean: Honestly, we don’t know.
Michael: You said you were a big brother?
Michael: You take care of your little brother. You do anything for him?
Dean: Yeah, I would.
Michael: Me too. I’ll help.
My last one is this little sweet brotherly moment when Sam opens up to Dean.
Sam: Hey, Dean, I’m sorry.
Dean: For what?
Sam: You know, I’ve really given you a lot a crap for always following Dad's orders, but I know why you do it.
Dean: Oh, God, kill me now.
Time Is On My Side: There was so much brought to the table with this episode. We meet Rufus, we learn of Bela’s passing and of her deal. We have the brothers getting desperate because Dean’s time is running out and the toll it is taking on them, even causing them to go their separate ways for a bit. We have a very creepy and gross MOTW, and I have to say, with being very claustrophobic, the way they dealt with the Doctor, burying him alive for eternity, still haunts me to this day.
To choose just one scene is almost impossible, but I brought it to two moments.
Firstly I love the discussion between Sam and Dean on the way the Doctor disposed of the body’s while Dean is trying to eat.
Sam: But silk used to be the suture of choice back in the early 19th century. It was really problematic. Patients would get massive infections. The death rate was insane.
Dean: Good times.
Sam: Right. So doctors had to do whatever they could to keep infections from spreading. One way was maggots.
Dean: Dude I’m eating.
Sam: It actually kind of worked because maggots eat bad tissue and they leave good tissue. And get this; when they found our guy his body cavity was stuffed full of maggots.
Dean: Dude, I’m eating!
Sam: According to this, Benton’s picky about where he sets up his lab. He likes dense forest with access to a river or stream or some kind of fresh water.
Sam: Because that’s where he likes to dump the bile, and intestines and fecal matter. (laughs) Lost your appetite yet?
Dean looks at his burger and thinks for a moment.
Dean: Oh, baby, I can’t stay mad at you. (Dean bites into his burger)
Secondly, I’m going to have to go with Dean's first encounter with Rufus. Starting with him trying to talk to him at his door.
Dean knocks and then bangs on the door.
Dean: Hi, uh, Rufus?
Rufus: Yeah! Even if I am, the question is till the same. What?
Dean: Uh, I’m Dean Winchester. I’m a friend of Bobby Singer's.
Dean: You called him this morning.
Dean: uh, ahem, you told Bobby about a British chick made contact with you.
Rufus: Yeah and so?
Dean: Do you know where she is?
Dean: Great could you tell me where I could find her?
To him finally getting in with a Bottle of Johnny Walker Blue and the deep conversation between them about Dean’s deal and the toll the job itself can take on them.
Rufus: Kid, can I ask you something?
Rufus: You got three weeks left. Why are you wasting your time chasing after that skinny stuck-up English girl?
Dean: How do you know about that?
Rufus: Because I know things. I know a lot of things about a lot of people.
Dean: That so.
Rufus: I know ain’t no pea shooter gonna save you.
Dean: What makes you so sure?
Rufus: Because that’s the job, kid. Even if you manage to scrape out of this one, there’s just gonna be something else down the road. Folks like us, there ain’t no happy ending. We all got it coming.
Dean: Well, ain’t you a bucket of sunshine
Rufus: I’m what you’ve got to look forward to if you survive. Which you won’t!
And of course, there was the light moment with Rufus disclosing a way to identify someone with more than fingerprints.
Rufus: You do her ear?
Rufus: You do her ear?
Dean: Did I do her ….hey, man, I’ll try anything once, but I don’t know, that sounds uncomfortable.
It’s A Terrible Life: With this one, I have to go with the elevator scenes with Sam and Dean. I just got such a kick out of these moments.
Sam: Do I know you?
Dean: I don’t think so?
Sam: I’m sorry, man, you just look really familiar.
Dean: Save it for the health club, pal.
Sam: Can I ask you a question?
Dean: Look, man, I told you I’m not into the uh…
Sam: Oh, dude, come on. I’m not either. I just wanna ask you one question.
Sam: What do you think about ghosts?
Sam: Do you believe in them?
Dean: Uh, tell you the truth, I’ve never given it much thought.
Dean: What? Why?
Sam: Because I’ve been having some weird dreams lately. You know what I mean?
Dean: No! Not really.
Sam: So you’ve never had any …weird dreams?
Dean: All right. Look, man. I don’t know you. ‘Kay! But I’m gonna do a public service and, ah, let you know that you over-share.
You Can’t Handle The Truth: With this one, I have to go with the last scenes of the episode. From Sam and Dean being tied up by the Goddess of Truth to Dean’s confrontation with Sam. That entire time I was totally consumed and on the edge of my seat.
Goddess: Hey, Dean, I’m curious. What do you really feel about your brother?
Dean: Better now. As of yesterday, I wanted to kill him in his sleep. I thought he was a monster. But now I think…
Goddess: Now you think what?
Dean: He’s just acting like me.
Goddess: What do you mean?
Dean: It’s the gig. You’re covered in blood til you’re in your own blood. Half the time you’re about to die, like right now. I told myself I wanted out that I wanted a family.’
Goddess: But you were lying.
Dean: No. But what I’m good at is slicing throats. I ain’t a father. I’m a killer. And there’s no changing that. I know that now.
Goddess: So Sam walking back into your life must have been a relief. Hmmm, Mallory to your Mickey. And how do you feel about the band getting back together? Hmm, Sam?
Sam: Look ahem. What we do is hard, but we watch out for each other. And that’s what’s important. And that’s it. That’s the truth.
Goddess: No. No it’s not.
Sam: You said yourself I can’t lie.
Goddess: How are you doing that? That’s not possible. You’re lying to me.
Sam: No, I’m not
Goddess: What are you? What is he?
Sam: I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Goddess: Really? I doubt that. I doubt anything that comes out of your mouth right now. You’re not human.
Goddess: You didn’t know that? Now that I believe.
Sam: Dean, It’s me.
Dean: You are not my brother.
Sam: Just listen.
Dean: What are you?
Sam: It’s me, Dean. Look, please just let me explain.
Dean: Why the hell should I believe anything you say?
Sam: Ok. Ok, you want the truth? Here it is. God’s honest. She was right. There’s something wrong with me. Really wrong. I’ve known it for a while. I’ve lied to you. Yeah. And I let you get turned by that Vamp, because I knew there was a cure, Dean. And we needed in that nest, and I knew you could handle it.
Dean: Handle it? I could have died. I could have killed Ben.
Sam: That should stop me cold, but I, I just don’t feel it.
Dean: You what?
Sam: Ever since I came back, I am a better hunter than I’ve ever been. Nothing scares me anymore because I can’t feel it. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I think I need help.
