10. Cowboys Ain’t Easy to Love, And They’re Harder to Hold
Bobby’s death didn’t shock me. I had a feeling that something big and bad was going to happen at that point in Season 7. I also didn’t believe that even Supernatural could find a way around a person dying from a bullet to the brain. What did shock me was the moment Bobby stood up to the memory of his father in that old kitchen. Jim Beaver deserves an Emmy, too. It wasn’t so much what was said that shocked me though – it was the fact that it was said at all. So much of the emotional aspect of Supernatural is implied. Sam and Dean and Bobby are all men, and war-hardened veterans at that. Hence, they don’t often directly express what they feel. So to hear Bobby say, “As fate would have it, I adopted two boys; and they grew up great – they grew up to be heroes”- for me, and I’m sure a lot of other fans, it was a very surprising, precious moment.
